Damn! Is that for real? Amazing stuff!!!
Cool vid. I haven't seen it before. Wasn't there an article about this sytem being successfuly tested here in the US, but the government favored another system that is still in its early phases?

I've seen this before too. I don't think they had this during Israel Hezbollah though.

Pretty neat but there will always be ways to get around that, and Im sure some smart a** will be able to make a little "Jamming" mechanizm in their rockets. But to be more "Realistic" there will be more I.E.D's.

My motto now will be for every action there is a counter-action. You can expect something new to come out to make this system obsolete. Hypersonic projectiles or missiles, air-to-ground or ground-to-ground missiles with multiple decoy warheads, missiles with active counter measures or variable trajectory (this is more likely) and etc. etc. etc. I wouldn't make to much of a bet on this trophy system.

Wonder if it would work against mortars.

The biggest problem I can see is that this is gonna make hell for the infantry surrounding the tank. Sure the warhead won't hurt the tank, but the explosion and the shrapnel storm won't be good for men who may be nearby.

The whole point in Trophy is that it's safe for the infantry around the tank, unless they are directly in the way of the rocket or the projectile, which means they are Focked anyway and as far as i know thats the improvment over the Russian versions that were not healthy for the infantry (could be wrong here, don't kill me Russian folk).
Although it is a matter of time until some sort of missile will be invented that can break the system, it will neutralize the RPG threats, which is a serious problem in places such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza strip and etc'.
it could be equiped on APC's and make them much safer.
Now when i was in reserves last month, i heard from one soldier from my company who has a tanker friend that served in the recent fightings in Lebanon (so i don't know about the reliability of this) that the Merkava 4's were already equiped with the Trophy and while for the most part it worked well, there were incidents where out of the blue 6, 7 ATGM would be fired at once at a tank and according to him the system managed to stop the first 2 or 3 missiles but the rest managed to hit the tank.
even if this isn't true, at least in the IDF some serious update on how to deal with modern ATGM would have to take place, i hope the army is testing the missiles captured in the war, studing their capabilities to the letter and passes it on to the tank units in order to make sure the troops know what they are up against, able to recognize diffrent generations when they are fired at them and correct manuvering.
and for the higher ranks a change in doctrines is needed in order to deal better with the AT threats.
technology is good but you shouldn't relay on it alone.
