I know SF does, but sometimes I see pics of Marines holding M4s, or even regular US infantry guys.
So what exactly is the breakdown of who gets an M4 and who gets an M16?

Well, I will tell you even in National guard everyone from squad leaders and up gets an M4
usually people in crew spots (ie tankers etc..)

Everyone is issued an M16A2 in Basic.
In a squad I think it's fireteam leaders or maybe a rifleman gets one. No idea rofl rofl

To my knowledge, the only Marines consistently issued M4's are SOF types. Fire team leaders as issued M203's from what I've been told.
Airborne, special operations, light infantry and tank crewmen; however, there are no strict "guidelines".

in the army, most light troops, FO's, leadership(squad leaders, PSGs, officers at Bn level or lower), vehicle crewers... etc. anyone who isnt highly enough placed to just carry an M9, and for whom an M16A2 would be a bit too cumbersome. for the most part, heavy division soldiers carry the '16...except for the above exceptions. Thats what ive seen, anyway.

That is not true that depends on unit and MOS and especially state.
