I remember reading about Spanish Legion - Tercio De Extranjero (correct me if i am wrong) . It has great history , and long battles , in Sahara desert , Marroco , ww2 , and so on . As far as i know , there are no foreigners this day in the legion , even if i am right , it's allowed to recieve foreigners that Spanish is their native language (Latin America) .

But i thought the guys suppose to wear a hat with a red feather ?

the unit was created in 1921 to fight against Moroccans it was a copy of French foreing lLegion, but cause 99% of soliders were Spanish it was changed, called Legion espaņola and only Spaniards could join it, but since 2003 foreing from old spanish colonies(SouthAmerica, and Equatorial Guinea) could also join Spanish Legion (and Spanish Army).
They taook part in wars against Morocoo (1921-1929, 1956, 1973-1974) a part of them (officers) were sent to Russia to fight against comunism, with Blue division(Division Azul) or 250th Division(1941-1943) and in Civil War with Franco's Army.

And for the hat, in Spanish army it was in use in all units(with differences in each unit), but after Civil war only The Legion wears it.For soldiers is a red feather but for officers is Gold ad argent colour.
