TORONTO

Two members of a family that has been linked to al-Qaida returned to Canada on Friday, bringing the controversy over their reputed ties to the terrorist network back with them.

Maha Elsamnah, 47, and her 14-year-old son Karim Khadr, who was paralysed in a shootout with Pakistani security forces, were met by family and reporters after getting off a plane from Britain at Toronto's Pearson airport.

Khadr, wounded in a shootout in Pakistan, flashed flashed a peace sign on arrival, while his mother wearing a white veil and walking behind him would only say "I have no connection to al-Qaida."

The pair were escorted to a van that drove them from the airport.

The teenaged boy had been in a hospital in Rawalpindi since last October, when he was shot in the spine during the shootout at a house in Waziristan near the border with Afghanistan.

The gunfight killed his father, Ahmed Said Khadr, 57, an Egyptian-born Canadian citizen and allegedly a close confidant of Osama bin Laden.

After the pair were whisked away in a van, Abdurahman Khadr, Kamir's 21-year-old brother who himself was held as a suspected terrorist for a time, spoke briefly with media.

"I'm happy they're back and I'm hoping my sister and other family will get back soon."

Abdurahman Khadr, who now lives in Toronto, said his mother and brother returned because his younger brother was released from hospital in Pakistan.

"We hope to get him into a hospital here", although he said the family has no idea yet how they'll pay for the boy's treatment.

He did say however that the family hoped to get financial aid through charities.

A half dozen Peel Regional Police escorted them through the arrivals area.

A little background. These people were living with Osama, on 9/11. There father who is already dead was on the top ten hitlist for Special Forces in the war in afghanistan. There son who is already back in Toronto trained at an Al Qaeda camp in A-Stan and addmitted his family had close ties to Al Qaeda and Osama.

Words cannot described how much I hate our government today. :bash:

So any of our Canadian brethren want to "take care" of this situation? I'm sure the USA would grant you asylum here. Didn't one of these f***cking assholes kill the Delta Medic Christopher Spiers in 2002?

Before you get your panties all twisted up...something to keep in mind:

If a member of a ##### organization is implicated/charged/convicted/shot dead by law enforcement, that doesn't necessarily indict all blood relatives as being directly or even indirectly involved.

Swap out ##### for Italian,Irish,Russian mafia/outlaw motorcycle gang/asian triad/Al Queda.....there is no difference.

Victims of crime can also be the families of perps......just because there's an Al Queda connection doesn't make it any different from any other criminal organization.

One of the reasons why we're the good guys is because we have a fair and equitable criminal justice system.....if they're guilty of anything...they'll be charged.....if they did nothing wrong.....they deserve to be left alone....cause God know's they'll be paying for the misdeeds of the father for a very long time.

There son who is already in Toronto after being in Guantonamo Bay prison, admitted his family is connected to Al Qaeda. They were with ****ing Bin Laden on 9/11. How much more do you ****ing want? These people need to thrown in prison, or atleast get their asses kicked back to Pakistan. They live in pakistan and afghanistan because they hate the west and partcipate in terrorist activites. But now they want to be back in Canada because their son can get treatment. **** THEM!

Not as of right now, but they are hoping to have it payed for by charities.

Money that could go to help people who deserve it, is probably going to help the son of a terrorist get better, so hopefully one day he will be live out his life long dream of being a suicide bomber. :cantbeli:

Yes, the Canadian taxpayers will end up paying for the little brats medical treatment. His family was shown on TV and his address was given....well sorta...I mean they made mention of the fact that they live in Scarborough and the cameraman did get a shot of their door number...as well as saying that they live around Midland and Eglinton.......but I didn't get a clear look at the door number....
I am pretty sure they'll be getting a lot of visitors (ie. egging the house, shouting profanity, etc)

You're forgetting why they're bringing him here.

He's "free" in the sense that he's not handcuffed.

You better damn believe that CSIS will be on his ass 24/7 to "check up" on him and any connections he might have.

Petition to turf Khadrs

CANADIANS OUTRAGED AL-QAIDA SUPPORTERS ALLOWED ENTRY

By KEVIN CONNOR, TORONTO SUN

AN ONLINE petition has been created calling for the Khadr family to be deported as an alleged security risk to Canada. Maha Elsamnah and her 14-year-old son Karim Khadr, who both have had ties to al-Qaida, were granted entry into Canada on Friday without passports.

"I, as a Canadian citizen, do not feel safe knowing that we have fundamentalists living in our own backyard. A family who hates everything this country stands for should not be welcome," said Donna Campbell, the 33-year-old Scarborough woman who started the petition yesterday.

"My goal is to have this family deported as I fear for the safety of myself, my family, and my fellow Canadians."

Elsamnah and Khadr are the wife and son of Ahmed Said Khadr, 57, who was killed in Pakistan last year during a raid against suspected terrorists.

They are a family long connected to al-Qaida, have lived in a compound with Osama bin Laden, and spent time in terrorist training camps that supported the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

The petition to the federal government says the Khadr family should be immediately and permanently deported and that they should be barred from accessing Canadian benefits, such as the health care system.

Karim Khadr was wounded last fall in a gunfight with Pakistani security forces and needs medical attention. The teen was shot in the spine during the shootout that killed his father.

"The federal government, in allowing the Khadrs back into Canada, have insulted all Canadians and should be ashamed of themselves. This, and other Liberal farces will not be forgotten on election day," said Paul Jones, one of the dozens who have signed the petition.

The government has gone mad allowing them in the country, Mair Traversy said.

"There is no room on the soil that my husband fought for, over 60 years ago, for families that admit they have been trained by Osama," Traversy said.

"We won't forget this."

Canadian government is too lenient. I'm very dissapointed regarding this matter. There are some people out there that don't deserve the Canadian resident status (citizenship) but yet Canada let them into the country. Very dissapointed!

Death threats won't deter a Scarborough woman from trying to oust the al-Qaida-linked Khadr family from Canada. For the most part, Donna Campbell said her online petition calling for the Khadr family to be deported has been an overwhelming success. She was happy to hear The Toronto Sun was flooded yesterday with people trying to find her Web address -- www.petitiononline.com/khadr/petition.html -- and by yesterday afternoon 20 new signatures were logged each hour. By last night, the amount of traffic was crashing the site intermittently.

But not everyone has been supportive. Campbell, who started the petition on the weekend, received her first threat yesterday. The e-mail addressed to Campbell said:

"I have something to say to you about the Khadr: You should die you dumb b-- ... I hope you get tortured."

Campbell, 33, is taking the threat seriously and will pass on all information to police. But she said threats won't stop her from continuing to gather names of people who don't think the Khadrs should have been allowed back into Canada last week.

'WE CANNOT BE APATHETIC'

"In my heart, I feel that we cannot be apathetic regarding this most unfortunate situation," Campbell said yesterday. "This is not what Canada is about. Terrorists should not be offered comfort, financial or otherwise, by our government."

Campbell was spurred to action after hearing Maha Elsamnah and her 14-year-old son, Karim Khadr, were allowed into Canada last Friday even though they have said in interviews that their family has longstanding connections to al-Qaida.

"I think it's wonderful that she's standing up and trying to make a difference," said Greg Jamieson, a Toronto resident who supports Campbell. "It's time we stop standing idly by. I think Canadians should have a say in how closely our federal government aligns itself with terrorism."

Some of Campbell's supporters are taking the initiative in an attempt to force the Khadrs to leave Canada. Toronto's William Rogers wrote a letter to the FBI regarding the Khadr return. "I have proof that we in Canada are harbouring al-Qaida fugitives, and supporters," Rogers wrote.

"I do not wish to claim any reward. I would, although, want to see these people taken from our society before they end up at one of our schools, dressed up with the latest human bomb apparel
