Anyone know the story where the american killed the family in a van accidnetally then when he found out they were civilians he started to cry and told someone to tell the people around the car that he is so sorry and that he just wants the iraqi people to have a future with freedom.

It was a total freak accident on the part of the woman and the Marine. By the way it was the next day from when his unit was attacked by suicide van and he and his unit were very jumpy! Don't quote me on this this is total memory.

Why? I admit the title is misleading but some patients practiced can lead to truth buddy!

I saw that too.

The soldier's unit was under strict order to fire on any vehicle that didn't stop at the checkpoint. He was a gunner in a LAV, I think. He was the guy who pulled the trigger. His commander didn't let him talk to the mourning Iraqis so he gave the note to an embedded reporter. That documentary that it was on was very powerful and well done.

Don't see what's wrong with this topic. This was reported on that CBC Deadline Iraq show.

The only thing "wrong" is that it probably should go to General Discussion rather than History and Tactics.

But it's a sound topic otherwise.

Don't delete this topic. All soldiers are NOT Rambo types who shoot, kill, maim, and decapitate people without feelings or disregard. At least the soldier has dignity to cry. It shows he has feelings of remorse and it also shows he has a conscience. I've seen grown men that came back from Afghanistan cry because of the crap that they had seen. I wouldn't dare call them "sissy" for crying. I respect them and their feelings too much. Before you comment on something at least try and think of how that soldier feels and what you would do given you were in his place. If you say you wouldn't do the same thing your either a liar or you a cold-hearted asswipe that needs to be in the rear with the gear.

Is that why China still does not have control of Taiwan? They prefer to oppress defenseless countries like Tibeet.

Not everyone is Rambo...nobody can go threw a war without some point of breakdown wether it be while in country or out. These guys are far from sissy's, they've seen alot and have done alot and some of that they may not be proud of.

The insensitivity of some people...

Yup...war will push a man to his breaking point and sometimes past it. Glad to see other people respect these guys emotions, its probably alot more healthy for them to show them and let them all out then bottle it up inside.
