CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- A federal air marshal accidentally left her gun in a restroom at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, an airport spokeswoman said Friday.

A passenger found the semiautomatic handgun Thursday and notified an airport employee. The employee then told airport police, who secured the weapon, said the spokeswoman, Pat Smith.

"They later found it belonged to a federal air marshal who apparently was using the restroom and put it up on the shelf while she was washing her hands and forgot about it," Smith said.

Dave Adams, a spokesman for the federal Air Marshal Service, said the marshal, whose name was not released, probably would be suspended.

"The air marshal realized within five minutes that she had lost her weapon, went back to the police department and it was subsequently returned to her," Adams said. "Obviously, we are very concerned about the situation."

There were no delays or other disruptions at the airport.

I'd be interested to hear what a serving law enforcement officer like JoJo thinks of the situation......my question is why was the weapon removed from a concealed carry holster in the first place?

This proves that 90% of all cops are idiots who shouldn't be issued capguns.

According to his autobiography, Colin Powell also lost his sidearm as a young lt. in Germany. He said it could have ruined his career if his Co wasn't such a fair guy.

The circumstances were different, of course.

I think its VERY suspicious that she left a handgun in the bathroom. Perhaps she left it for someone else to pick-up?
At the very least she should be fired, and never be able to serve in law-enforcement again.

I want to know why she felt it necessary to remove the weapon from its holster to use the washroom. Common sense says that leaving your sidearm secured in its holster is far wiser than removing it and placing it somewhere you're likely to leave it. As an officer, I would think she would know that from training. Never leave your sidearm anywhere unsecured.

But maybe since she's federal agent, she thinks she's special in some way.

It wasnt a cop. An air marshall.

It wasnt a cop. An air marshall.

I realise this. I don't believe that I labelled her as "cop". Unless I'm much mistaken, air marshals are federal agents.

I don't see how this makes a difference in what she did, anyway. Cop, air marshal, or game warden, you DO NOT remove your sidearm from its holster unless you're going to use it.
