Now and then searching through www.archive.org interesting things continue to pop up like this french documentary on the Algerian war in 5 parts.
Unfortunately commentary only in French with no subtitling in English.
Yet even though I myself understand jack sh*t of French I found these documentaries quite interesting, as they contain some quite good footage of both the French security forces, the fellagah and the scenery.
Size of each file about 350 mb and download speed not overly fast but ok.
Still some form of download manager recommended.

Otherwise the full version of one of the favourite vids in here  is available for download from here: ;):

Size 750 mb (so download manager still recommended - Wether the vid is public domain is another matter altogether though  )

Don't know as I've never used Emule and are a bit sceptic of P2P.
The size of each file is about 350 mb, so if there were just 4 files I guess they would fit 2x700 MB CD's (though actual capacity of a 700 MB i guess is 650 mb making 700 with index/FAT?)
But there are as stated above 5 parts, of which each one constitute a 55 min episode. Each one part focusing on one particular timephase of the conflict. The 2nd part for instance by and large focus on the battle of Algiers, while part 3 focus on the entry of De Gaule, the battle of the frontiers and the Challe offensives, 4 part is concerned with the 1961 putch and the 5 part round off with the exit of the French and the OAS

If its a documentary that specificaly focuses on the use of torture by the French security forces in the Algerian war you're thinking of, the links I posted here are to a different documentary. The torture documentary is also available on www.archive.org however, downloadable in 2 parts of about 500 mb each that combined make a 1h, 50 min long documentary.

Oh it wasn't the classic "Battle of Algiers" by Ponte Corvo your thinking of (a docu-drama feature and not a pure documentary at that, but still good I think)?
All the documentaries I've linked/mentioned here are a mix of present interviews in colour mixed with old black and white (and colour) newsreel footage of the war.

This is an excellent serie indeed.
I am still looking for the original english version .
This is a PBP ltd production in cooperation with RTBF
Peter Batty Production specialized in documentaries, and is based in England.
This serie first appeared on Public television in the US, distributed by channel 4 england and the Thames.
Produced in 1984.

Somehow I have lost track of this production.
I had recorded the integral program on VHS, but the tapes are now heavily damaged.

PS. Peter Batty Production has an excellent documentary on the battle of
Dien Bien Phu. I believe it is available for purchase thru the Univ of Wash.p-)
