SEALS from the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command board the ship by fast roping here recently. These and other SEAL teams are deployed worldwide in support of ongoing operations.

And the helo is not a USMC Super Stallion but a USAF MH-53J Pave Low III...
I have rather seen SEALs operating out of a USAF chopper. They have all they want within the NAVY / USMC.
But today, anything could happen in this dangerous world! ;)

I'm pretty sure this pic is from a ship boarding exercise conducted in early '03.

From: Jim (08/25/03 02:54:55)
hey everyone, these are guys from one of the seal teams in California. They are fast roping to the deck of the USS MOUNT WHITNEY. They came in on two Air force pave lows. One for insertion and one for security. They brought with them 2 combat controllers and 1 EOD guy. The guys with large antena on his back is one of the combat controllers. They all carried mp5's with ris rails. They are wearing running shoes and hiking boots. The reason that they do this is because on board ships they have what is called non skid. They put non skid down to help people to get a better grip on the deck so that they don't slip and fall in ruff seas. The sneakers and boots, with there soft soals, help them to get an even better grip. You are problably asking yourself how I know all of this. The answer: I was a gunnersmate on board the mount whitney. We were deployed from November 12, 2002 through June 13, 2003 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom. I was standing watch on one of our 25mm chain guns when they came. I had a chance to talk to some of them while they were waiting for there helo's to pick them up.
End of the mystery ;)

On USMC.mil? Hell, no self-respecting marine would put anything air force on there.
That's a USMC ****ter, not an Air Force MH53J. Common sense.

just a quick question
is everyone just "obsessed" so to speak with GROM
after all their publicity from iraq and the clearing of port umm qasar?
becuase as i scanned through previous forum posts i could find noone raving on about GROM now everyone is GROM and the SEALS are forgotten haha
shows how much of a profound impact the media can have
and how many special forces units there are out there that we may not recognize as as good as they should be
dont get me wrong im not saying GROM are bad, i mean they prbably dont even want the media attention they have gotten.
thats all
