First, they are Marines. Second, its their job to "close with and destroy the enemy". If that means chasing them in a Humvee, so be it.
That is a kickass video Dronetek

This is the most intense vid I had seen on the war in Iraq (including fighting, beheading and bombing).
But I want to ask a question to some military members of this forum.
I think the vid portrayed a very dangerous situation. It is a standard practice that a vehicle speeds to chase enemy? What happened if there is another ambush ready to engage the lonely vehicle?
I know that in the vid we cannot have the big picture (maybe there are other friendly forces around), but the idea of a lonely (or two) vehicle separated from the rest of the force is pretty scary.
Good work marines. I hope the insurgent wasn't killed.............

If tagging a video like this for being graphic, based on the language, you need a reality check. In a video where people are being killed, language shouldn't be what worries you the most (regardless of it being insurgents getting killed).
Dronetek, extreme video. Interesting though, you get a good sense of the adrenalin rushing through the marines.

Using foul language in the military is unprofessional? When being shot at by the enemy?
"Get some" as encouragement to your buddies to fight and kill in the heat of the moment is unprofessional?
Maybe they were actling like that because they were in contact with a real enemy, and it had nothing to do with watching too many Jerry Bruckheimer films.

Things like, "Get some!" cursing, and being gung-ho in general are things that they start instilling in you the moment you arrive on depot for USMC boot camp. ;)
What do you expect? "Ok guys, those insurgents are shooting at us. So, let us now begin pursuing them. You may shoot back at them if you think you need to..."? Haha
GREAT FIND, DRONETEK! This definitely ranks as one of the most intense videos to come out of Iraq.
SO did they get one or two? Its hard to tell what happens to the guy with the white shirt running down the street.

Hell yeah! But sure a bit hasty. Could just as well have been an ambush waiting for them at that intersection. Good thing they got one of'em though.
But I'm a bit surpriced. If you have the opp. to attack first you really should overwhelm your opponent with lead and what not. Instead they got persued and knocked down. Hmm...strange...stupid....amatuers.

Now, i must say that i'm wondering where they saw insurgents at the beginning. Because this is hell of a chase they made to get to the road. By the way did you notice, not even one car at the beginning and then paf a road full or cars where the NCO start to yell at the driver to slow down.
What i can tell you is than shooting at a running dude while on a moving vehicule is pretty tough, and they manage to do it. But at the end, i wouldn't have stay there asking where are we, because if the insurgents had turned back...

Good Job Marines!!!
Great Video (this happened in back April?).
For those of you looking at this like you look at video from the same angle through the front windshield of a cop car...Uh uh, NO. Wrong answer.
For a cop, the person he's chasing down is most likely a fellow citizen, and in a country like the USA that citizen is innocent of any crime until he gets his day in court. As long as he doesn't try to kill the cop, the cop can't try to kill him.
In a cop chase there is a very similar emotional response at work as one sees here; the "chase it down and kill it" response. However, in cops that final measure of instinct, where the predator buries his fangs into his prey, is trained OUT.
In combat troops, it's trained IN.
There's going to be killing at the end of this chase, not an arrest. They might like to get these guys alive for questioning, but that's completely secondary, unlike with the police.
"...If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war.

IIRC, the Hague conventions dealt with weapons. And I'm not sure if it restricts use the .50 against personnel or not.

the hague conventions state that a weapon must not cause undue suffering to enemy personnel or something along those lines never mentions any specific weapon i didnt think.

Lets say for example the M2 HB was banned. How does it cause undue suffering? I'll take the 50 over a 5.56 anyday. Slim chance of survival with the 50. Hell, I'll take a direct hit from an Abrams main gun. No pain, no suffering.
Regardless of "law" you use what's at hand, and face the music(if any) after. I'd sooner be judged by 12 than carried by six.

Excellent!
Sounds like there's some confusion amongst the ranks, if people are asserting that some soldiers and former soldiers are uncertain about when they can use a heavy weapon like the .50 against enemy combatants.
I'd be a bit worried about serving with anybody who has doubts about using the .50 against an attacker.
I don't see how use against personnel can be prohibited, what with so many vehicle with gun cradles that mount the .50; humvee, trucks, etc

I'd also like to point out the Sgt yelling, "Use the 16s, use the 16's!” Apparently, that’s because the .50 cal is forbidden against infantry. So, this is a good example of US Marines abiding by the Geneva conventions.
No, no, no, it is perfectly legal to use .50 against personel (ball, etc.), however there are certain types of ammo that not allowed to use against personel (can't remember which of the top of my head).

The M2 is not banned. We used it against softies plenty of times. Plenty of other "law abiding" counties use it on softies. I kinda also didn't like that they gave chase. It makes for a cool video but, so many things could of went wrong. When we would setup checkpoints we would box off AO. So maybe they had other checkpoints setup so they could give chase. I just don't know the situation as others don't. About the yelling it's adrenaline and feeding off each other, yous sure wouldn't liked to be around us over there ha. The humvee is a top heavy ****er with the up armor kits. I've seen a few rolled humvees over there. The problem is the humvee fleets were up armored but, they didn't install other upgrades to deal with the weight. Engine and tranny is stressed the shocks aren't upgraded to deal with the extra load.

Exploding or expanding rounds below 20mm (if I recall correctly). Above that it is ok with anything (flechettes have been argued though), and below that FMJ, AP, API, Tracer, actually anything but HP and HE.
Even HP is quite commonly accepted in certain forms in sniper weapons, U.S. uses them and I've seen some Lapua Scenar's used elsewhere.

I dunno about random civilians...I did hear what sounded like a bullet plinking off the humvee armor...i guess they still could be but it seems like from the video somone was shooting at the chasing humvee. but, i dont know....i wasnt there.
I know they were shot at, but the camera doesn't show those who attacked the HUMMVEE. Some people might turn this video into a propaganda tool against the US, saying they shot random civilians. We don't get the complete picture, I guess that's why most of these videos stay in the closet...

But you can see the dust in front of the humvee (prolly from a car) and than when they reach the wider road you can see the suspects running away from the black car (doors are open!) and one of them is shot, it really looks like a car chase at first.

Are you going to take the chance that the guys you're pursuing, who incidentally just tried to ambush your fellow Marines, aren't armed? You're after potentially armed insurgents who could turn on you, during the foot pursuit, with a weapon at any time. Welcome to real world combat and firefights. It's not pretty and when the sh*t hits the fan most guys in combat aren't using the Queen's English. Have you ever had to ride around a place where you could be ambushed at any given moment. Let me tell ya, it sucks. This is war, not hide and seek.

whenever adrenaline is running high its difficult to control your nerves, your breathing, etc.
You have all had a "rush" before. So just imagine that x10. You get used to it the more time you have to get used to it, but it never goes away.
Also some people handle it differently. Some might start popping off at the mouth like that one guy you can hear. Some might get eerily quiet and introspective. The adrenaline is still flowing in the hardened vet, he just knows how to control it. Some come in knowing how to control it.
Having said that, I see nothing wrong with what was done. They pursued suspects who engaged them and will engage them again given the chance. One was shot, perhaps he died, probably not unless they let him bleed out, which is wrong.
You have to remember though. We would haul guys in and have them back out in the streets months later, doing it all over again. It gets kinda old. It really sucks when that same dude kills one of your guys too.

While not on the scale of iraq i have been on the two way rifle range, and this was just my opinion that you dont win hearts and minds by treating every single suspect like ****, you dont win a war by playing loud ass music and letting everyone around know you are there. again i have respect for all troops they have the toughest jobs in the world, especially on deployment it just seems the us is making unnesssary damage on itself, for want of training and dicipline.

The phrase "Get Some!" is from movie called Full Metal Jacket which deals war in Vietnam. In that film one helicopter gunner shoots from the helicopter everything that moves. During the shooting he shouts "Get Some, get some!".
The gunner shoot everything from women, water buffalos to children. One of the characters riding along in the helicopter asks from the gunner that how you can you shoot children. Gunner replies - easy, it just aim lower-

Mate you can even see their flash and cap badge!
How can they be confused with Iraqi SF!!!
What kind of video is it? XviD thing doesn't install any kind of player. The Quicktime player plays sound but no video.

Xvid is a codex that "decodes" the video file so that you can view it. You install the codec and just open the file using a video player like Windows Media Player, don't use Quicktime.

I really love it how some of you people who probably never served or never even seen a gun before, like to criticize soldiers like "he shouldn't have done that" or "if that was me...."
Do us all a favour and keep these ignorant things to yourselves.
Both Jk=SWE= and Närskydd have served, and I'm pretty sure they've had their fair share of handling a weapon.
Ok, I installed the XviD and when I tried to play the URL in media player it gives me an error that my computer is almost out of memory when I am nowhere close to out of memory. What am I doing wrong..sorry for getting off topic I want to watch this video plus there are a few more that I can't watch.

Doesn't mean they've been in combat, and if they haven't, then they shouldn't be giving advice as to how to react in that situation.

i cant watch streaming versions cause the itnernet is too slow, but i can make it work if i have an actual download link other than these streaming video downloaders/

I knew this would be on Mp when I came back! haha
These are some of the Marines from my unit. Little backstory, originally the Marines that leaked this back in june got a serious ass chewing by the BC and such. I dont see what the big deal is though, after reviewing the clip my CO broke it down like a football game and was monday morning quarterbackin it in the most humorous of ways. "Your Hummvee is a weapon gents, now instead of stopping he should have just ran that guy over and continued the pursuit of the other three" **** like that. It doesnt matter though cause all 3 got what they deserved.

Yeah, there is no way this one is seeing the light of day. At least not till the conflict is over. There is nothing wrong with it in my opinion, but you all know how it would be blow out of proportion. Remember the mosque shooting video and the **** storm that caused?

don't mean to be rude...but come on!!!
dont get me wrong I would love to know more about it as well, but chances are that we wont for obvious reasons.
All it did say about this video when it came out was, Marines were waiting on these guys as they ambushed patrols before in that area.
I could be very wrong so please don't quote me on that.
This is how I understood what happened.
If anyone knows more and is wiling to share that with the rest of the world, please.

I kind of thought they were a QRF responding to an ongoing/recent attack, and happened to pick the same ingress route as the egressing hajis.

Those Marines are in my Unit- different company but same battalion. From what I know those Marines were on a mounted patrol when a BOLO came out after that same vehicle did a drive by on a freindly dis-mounted patrol in fallujah.

Indeed. Driveby assailants that got chased down. In the earlier posts of the video it is a bit more complete and you can hear the initial shots and the vehicle drive by. The chase then ensues.

You think you'll be sent back to Ramadi? I'm not sure which parts of Iraq are the most dangerous but from clips over the net I'd say Ramadi ain't no Hilton hotel.

i think ramadi was a one time shot for any guardsman.... i lived through it once, its a 50/50 chance if i go back.... we did alot better than the AD guys that replaced us (1AD boys), ramadi has gone back to hell since we left... and im not just saying it was us, but the guard worked well with the marines, recon by fire or just settle any argument by overwhelming fear and fire power, haha..... marines we worked with liked that.... controled violence of action....

they were just doin "different things" we would never do, like let cars pass them on the roads and they ruled out warning shots, there eof escalation of force was "kinda like" dont shoot unless shot at.... in the wild west of ramadi thats the wrong answer....

You can't shoot unless shot at? Though you were allowed to pop a dude if he had a weapon. I couldn't imagine what it must be like driving and watching a car pull up beside you or pass you by. I'd have a million knots in my stomach.

our terp. came back from a patrol with them and almost pissssed himself telling us that they were letting cars drive by them..... our plt ldr went out with them till the last day, and he shot a few warning shots at a vehicle and it stopped, nothing else happened...but they wrote it up and wanted to do an investigation on it.... weird:cantbeli: :cantbeli:
