12 soldiers killed in Iraq

THE US military today announced the deaths of 12 US soldiers killed since Friday.
Four of the soldiers, from the 1st Armoured Division, were killed in two separate attacks in Baghdad on Friday.
On the same day, three 1st Infantry Division soldiers were killed and two wounded in an ambush in the town of Baiji, 200kms north-west of the capital.
Another soldier, from Task Force Danger, died when an RPG hit his armoured vehicle near Buhritz, in the same area.
A Marine was killed in the western Anbar province.
Yesterday, a 1st Armoured Division soldier was killed in an attack on his convoy in central Baghdad. A soldier wounded by a roadside bomb in Baghdad yesterday died today.
A 1st Infantry Division soldier was killed and another wounded when 15 insurgents attacked his patrol near Khalis, 50km north of Baghdad.
In all, 59 American soldiers have been killed in fighting across the country since April 4, when an uprising by a radical Shiite militia in the south and a Marine offensive on Sunni insurgents in Fallujah began.
At least 671 US soldiers have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003
