is that the flag of Kuomintang?
Taiwan has been the home of the KMT (Nationalist China) government since 1949.

It good to see that even though the press from China is huge on all the world to back from saying Taiwan is a nation. The people of Taiwan know better and are ready to defence themselve from the land hungery gaint across the sea.
Borders change and its no longer if ever part of China. You don't see the poles or finland getting up in arms and demanding Russia give back land that they stolen from them at the end of WW2. It should be the same with China.

Thats what i was speculating in my 1st post on the subject before us.
I think it would all *** down to the training. Are Mass wave attacks still in vogue with the PLA??

Well the problem with the Chicom military is that it is not specialized enough. Even though Commie China is larger in regards to military strength Taiwans military is highly specialized and have been for the better half of at least 20 years. Not to mention where would China put all those forces plus sustain support for them on the long term? China just started maybe 5 years ago large scaled specops force training and they are yet to be tested or their training has yet to be on par with Taiwans. I think it would be ugly and Chicom men are not poor farmers anymore they work, drive cars and go online (limited). They are not indoctinated with so much Commie propaganda and are less patriotic then their neighbors.

I can't wait for the Taiwan MCs to adopt the T91, and fully replace all the T65K2 rifles aka M16A2.
T91 just outperforms the T65K2 reliability wise. They've made so much improvement over it.

The Taiwaneese army looks great and probably much better then the chinese army, but i think the chinese would take it quite fast anyway beacause they can bombard the **** of taiwan before going in with troops. Thats what i think.

It's not if the Taiwaneese army can take the Chinese one. It the fact that China has no claim on Taiwan now its been 60 years and the border had changed and like it or not Taiwan is a nation.

AFAIK all territory was given back to Poland after WW2. Even if that isn't so, it would be up to Belarus and Ukraine to sort it out with the Poles.
As for China, it's a more complicated situation, with essentially 2 governments for one nation, due to a civil war that has never really finished.

Exactly... if it is a nation, why isn't it in UN?
becuase the world when establishing relations with China implicitly treats Taiwan as a internal issue.

indeed it is politics, almost all civilized nations abandoned this so called 'tw nation', and of course there are few playing with this 'nation' or not game to gain more for their own.

But for all intents and purposes, Taiwan is a nation. ^Original quote.
It has a government, a flag, sovereignty (albeit limited in terms of international recognition), military, et. al.
Therefore, For all intents and purposes Taiwan is a nation.

so then are the kurds in N. Iraq a nation?
You trying to trip me up or something?
People, you're not listening to me, FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES.
Translated, this means "they might as well be".
Far be it from me to decide who should be a nation, and who shouldn't.
However, I do know that Taiwan has had some 60 years of independence from mainland China and has developed it's own economy, government, military, etc.
And (correct me if I'm wrong) with every passing generation, those displaced Chinese are feeling less and less connection with the mainland, and are feeling more Taiwanese than anything else.

I think it would be wrong to say that Taiwan has been independent for 60 years. The government in Taipei used to represent all China until 1979. The two late Chiang presidents both said in their wills that they wish to be buried in their homeland in the mainland.
The independence movement may be old, but didn't really pick up pace until the early 90's.
It's not at all certain that overwhelming majority of people in Taiwan want to complete separate themselves from China. The old Repbulic of China constitution still stands tho it's somewhat anachronic. We ll see what happens.
Hopefully it's just two siblings in one family fighting but eventually will unite peacefully.

Nice photos,
As for the issue of Taiwan the Taiwanese had laid claim to China and after the defeat of the KMT, Taiwan viewed the people in Beijing as a bunch of commie hijackers that stole their country. It ain't going to be independant, Nixon supported a unified China he just didn't want a communist Mainland China taking Taiwan by force, Powell also reiterated the same and Bush's calls for one-China policy, they hope for a peaceful reunification but are unwilling to see the commies take Taiwan by force.
