It is said It is not an A-50 from Russia, the plane is IL-76, the radar is made in a reseach institute of China.

hmm India is buying Il78 with israeli radars so prabably they will be way ahed of PLA
but IL78 is good plane much cheaper than C17 and with almoust the same capabilytys only electronic and eingines may be not too good but it can be changed easly :D

Any idea how many there are? From the pictures it looks as if there are two different ones. The planes in the pictures have two different "masts" (I don't know what to call the supports for the radar). Maybe supports?

Yes the Il-78 is cheaper but they are significantly different aircraft. The C-17 has a much larger payload and a much better off-runway landing capability. The Il-78 is more of a C-141 than a C-17.

Yes the Il-78 is cheaper but they are significantly different aircraft. The C-17 has a much larger payload and a much better off-runway landing capability. The Il-78 is more of a C-141 than a C-17.

It is difficult to do this, because we havn't enough data on it now. But I think E-3 is mature and excellent.

Actuall max t.o. weight means very little in transport aircraft. Its the size of the cargo bay that is important. Many narrow body transport aircraft can carry much more than they can actually fit inside of them.

These pictures give a clear example of the actual cargo capacity of the three aircraft:

The C-17 on the other hand is shorter than the -141, but is much wider than both the -141 or -76. Notice, the C-17 is carrying a Black Hawk and Humvee almost side by side. The HUMVEE is most likely itself wider than the truck going on the -76 or cargo containers on the -141.



EDIT: anyway, I just checked the numbers for myself. The true Max take-off weight for the Il-76 is around 175,000 kgs. C-141 is a little over 146,000 kgs, and C-17 is 266,000 kgs.
