The elderly American gentleman arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he fumbled for his passport.
"You 'ave been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically. The old gent admitted that he had been to France previously.
"Zen, you should know enough to 'ave your passport ready for inspection."
The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."
"Impossible. You Americans alwayz 'ave to show your passports on arrival in France!"
The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained.
"Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in '44, I couldn't find any f'ing Frenchmen to show it to."

100,000 Free French soldiers fought in the Allied side in Italy in 1943. By the time of the Normandy Invasion, the Free French forces numbered more than 400,000 people. The Free French 2nd Armoured Division, under General Philippe Leclerc, landed at Normandy and eventually led the drive towards Paris. The Free French 1st Army, under General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, joined the Allies' invasion of southern France and took Alsace.

200 French were on D-Day itself.
But not all Americans landed on Omaha so i fail to see your point.
The 2DB of General Leclerc landed at the same time as Americans and they did a good damn joob.Just like the Free French Forces in Africa and Italy.

C'mon man, its just a joke. I love French jokes but it doesn't mean I think French are cowards or bad or anything. I am Catholic and I love Catholic jokes for exactly the same reason. Ignorance? Only thing this joke and your response shows is that you need to lighten up!
