Hate Crime Charges Filed Against Five Jewish Teenagers in Brooklyn

Five Jewish teenagers have been charged with hate crimes for attacking a Pakistani-American man with brass knuckles in the Midwood section of Brooklyn (http://www.nysun.com/related_results.php?term=Brooklyn) and calling him a "terrorist," officials said.
Shahid Amber (http://www.nysun.com/related_results.php?term=Shahid+Amber), 24, said in an interview last night he was eating ice cream near a Dunkin' Donuts (http://www.nysun.com/related_results.php?term=Dunkin%27+Brands%2c+Inc.) at the corner of East 15th Street and Avenue M, when he was approached by a group of five teenagers at about 8:15 p.m. on October 29. They knocked the ice cream from his hands, called him a "terrorist" and told him: "Go back to your country," he said.
The teenagers held his arms behind his back and began beating him with a pair of brass knuckles, breaking his nose and leaving his torso covered in bruises, he said. Doctors told him he would need surgery to correct the damage done to his face.
Police arrested the five teenagers soon after the attack. Three were identified as Yossi Friedman, 17, Shulomi Bitton (http://www.nysun.com/related_results.php?term=Shulomi+Bitton), 16, and Benjamin Wasserman, 16. Two 15-year-olds that were arrested were not identified because of their age. They all lived in the vicinity of the street corner where the attack happened.
The alleged perpetrators were charged by the Brooklyn district attorney with a number of crimes, including assault in the first degree, assault in the second and third degree as hate crimes, gang assault in the first degree, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a spokesman said. For the most serious charge, assault in the first degree, they face between eight and a third and 20 years in prison, the spokesman said.
Channel 7 first reported the attack on Wednesday night.

I believe a Jewish woman was shot to death in Seattle, Washington this summer by an American Muslim of Arab heritage. As I recall it occurred at a Jewish Community Center. I believe a couple of other women were wounded.

Anyway we were just talking about this kind of stuff in school today. Really sad to hear, it doesn't really matter who does it or who gets hurt. The problem is that hate crimes exist and we as a society have to do something about it. I really believe it's all a matter of how you are rased. Like for example if you are rased with people of your kind and have little or no connection with people different from your "kind" you will be a racist and that is completely true most of the time. But if you're rased and have friends different from your "kind" then the chances of something ugly like this would drastically decrease. I mean if a Jew is rased with a black person or a muslim or a chirstian or any other ethnic group or religion than this would never happen. I live in Brooklyn I'm Albanian (1/2 Muslim - 1/2 Christian not that it matters) and my best friend is a Catholic Italian, Latvian Jew, and Pakistani muslim. Things like this rarely happen in Brooklyn though. I mean we're preety mixed over here so people are used to appriciate and respect people with different skin color, ethnicity, religion etc.

He posted it because it happened very recently I think, if he dug in the archives of the world's histroy and posted all the jewish crimes or killings commited by jews then it would have been an example of a person with an agenda.

The mid east conflict was imported to Europe (specially France) and now in the states!
I always though that when you're french or american , born from parents who were born here too like their grand parents, you were only frenchs or americans. It seems lot of peoples thinks that their religious identity is more important than their national identity.

If one day there's a hard conflict between Israel and the US or France or UK what should be the more important?

Well, in my head religious beliefs and common sense does´nt go hand in hand.

If you are a true believer and believe in what the book says (any book, any religion) you think that God created the earth on 7 days, or you should kill any gay person or any other stupid rule...
If you claim to be religious but say "I only choose to believe some parts in some books" I laugh at you and call you hypocrith...

Personally I call myself "christian", wich is my background. But I´m not religious or a believer. I can pray to some "god" in harsh times, but that just a custom what I was brought up to do and perhaps it helps psychologically.

Religious people is dangerous when it comes to the real world. You just can´t argue with them in a common sense. How do you persuade a jew that he is wrong when he is occupying a palestine land and his answer is "I´m the chosen people, god gave me this land thousand of years ago. Long before he came here..." ? How can you discuss a simple question to a muslim who wants to blow up an european, any european, because of some carton a newspaper in Denmark published?

The shooting at the Los Angles Airport by muslim guy that killed a bunch of Israelis.

This is logical because what really counts is how many bad thing people of this and that race or religion do. These things are all counted.

This means, logically, that if Sweden were to bomb the s*it out of some little country, this wouldn't be so bad because muslims do bad things all the time.

Yes, this is well known. You also forgot black people. Therefore, the beating up of a random arab on the street was ok, because jews do not do this that often, so the quota had to be topped up a bit with some pointless racist violence.

Five Orthodox Jewish teens have been slammed with hate-crime charges in the brutal beating of a Pakistani immigrant in Brooklyn.
"They hit me in the face with brass knuckles four or five times while somebody held my hands," said the victim, Shahid Amber, 24, a gas station attendant. "Then they all beat and kicked me. They were screaming 'Muslim m-f-r. You m-f-g Muslim terrorists. Go back to your country.' "

Amber, who was eating ice cream outside a Midwood Dunkin' Donuts when the gang attacked on Sunday, needed 15 stitches on his broken nose and reconstructive surgery.

Witnesses who called 911 said that 10-12 youths jumped him, a source said.

Amber said the attack began after one of the group asked if he were Muslim and he answered yes. Amber's father, Umbar Islam, 56, described a brutal assault by boys in long black jackets, black pants and black hats.

"They punched and broke his nose. They ripped his jacket. He was covered in blood. They said, 'Jews rule this country!' " Islam said. "These people are crazy. In his life, he's never fought. He doesn't know how to fight."

I went to school at Midwood H.S. in brooklyn, what i can tell you guys about that area is that its a very orthadox jewish neighborhood but if you go about 10-15 more blocks down it is a very pakistani neighborhood. Not really surprised something like this happened there

Ok. How dangerous is Harlem and spanish harlem on a scale 1-10? A couple of years ago when I and two friends where in NY we decided to walk the entire Central Park (it was big). When we got to the end we just kept on walking (looking for a subwaystation) and we walked and we walked. We went trough harlem and into spanish harlem. Three white tourists with expensive cameras in their shirtpockets and a paniclook in their eyes. Eventually we found a substation and ran to it. But it was´nt until we reached the 100´th street or something when the first cops came onboard the subway. Finaly we we´rnt the only white people on the train! (My friend was so nervous he almosed puked)

So, are the spanish harlem or harlem dangerous and we were just lucky or what?
