What do reckon taking the All Arms Commando Course will benefit you from?

I have several mates who have been wanting to apply for this, and was wondering what exact benefits there are of taking this?

For those who don't know the All Arms Commando Course is a course that can be taken by any member of the UK military to earn the Green Beret (Or Royal Marine Commando Beret).

Just curious what you think the benefits are.

More money.

You usually don't do it unless you're going to a Cdo roled unit (same for P Coy and Airborne roles) but sometimes you can just apply if there's spaces.

You get a well ally dagger flash too :)

I thought this thread was about a commando course designed for people without actual arms, kinda like a special olympics type deal. Excuse my ignorance, I implore you.

1. It's not the Royal Marine Commando Beret you earn on the AACC it's the Commando Beret. Marines are Marines and Soldiers, Soldiers no matter what lid they have on.

2. The benefits, well it rather depends on what you want out of life: on a personal level it proves that you are up to the standard of one of the most demanding military courses in the world; it will improve your basic military skills (you will fail if you're fit but a biff unlike certain other courses which are basically fitness tests); but the only good reason for applying is a desire to serve with Commando Forces ,if you don't want to, don't bother because that's wat it's really all about.

Having taken the trouble to reply I rather wish I hadn't:

Joined the Royal Marines in 1997. Have to say one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. It is really hard to describe, but the feelings are so mixed!
At the time it was a real tough bake. Exhausting, mentally and physically. Almost never ending!

Anyways after PRMC and POC Things changed. The times were good, infact really good. I had just gotten out of college, and I was after adventure, experiences and challenges, and thats exactly what I got. There were ****ty times, infact really ****ty times, but there were better times!

After 3 years I decided to take up a Specialisation in the RM which lead to even more exciting experiences. Definately a blast that I'll never regret learning new things all the time. Things that make you a smarter more intelligent person in general, not just military mumbo jumbo.

And the skills you leave the armed forces with is 1st class. All recognised in civilian jobs etc.

An absolut must for adventure geeks like myself.

^^^^^^ Love it when a walter is caught out!!
Mates that i have from the signals have passed and say that its harder than the para version for non infantry and the SF communicators (totally different phys).
Also there is no financial incentive like for the others i mention.
From the signals you tend to work in Y troop though apparently other jobs are available.
Good luck to anyone who seriously intends to take the challenge.

So will you get transferred to a unit in the RM? You're slightly confusing.

This guy is a fake. Like in the Argyll "package" thread, first aks what type of vest was he wearing and when answered it results that he had and also uses that vest (a 5.11) in "urban ops" ...........

Quick, pretend nothings happened. We must drag this out, epic threads have been thin on the ground recently.

ST69 - So you're ex-Royal? LOL WOW buttsecks? Does your 5.11 vest enhance your package when you're in urban ops?

Joining 29 and 59 Cdo will see you joining the best motivated guys from your respective regiments. Also talking with these guys they always expressed that they enjoyed working with 3 Commando Bde or/and Royal Marines.

Also you are in Guz which is a fun place and not to cluttered with Btn after Btn on top of each other.

I was an Instructor on the AACC Team twice and throughly enjoyed working with such a motivated bunch of blokes.

If you wish to attempt the course you have to be reasonable fit but there is no need to be super fit as this may work against you, peaked equals broken easy. However if you think you can just rock up with no preparation you will be in for a shock, there is a fine line between the two. I have seen both many times.

AHaha other than the poser bashing I do have something to add
CUrrently in the UAS while I'm at uni prior to my application to the forces proper afterwards and our current squadron leader has a commando dagger on his flightsuit, just because having flown a lot of blokes with it arund in the (mighty) chinook he decided he'd impress them and try the course. ANd after a lot of effort and pain he did

How you managed to gain entry to a university with that level of English spelling is beyond me, but all the best of luck in the future.
