You are the warlord of a large private army, and an arms dealer is offering you the pick of any weapon system (real or experimental - not too far-fetched) you can field to your troops. Rifles, tanks, machine guns, aircraft, ships, etc. You are the supreme commander of the force. What equipment would you pick? What is your battle philosophy? What will be your tactics' focus?

You can simply name a couple of things or just go all the way and write up an entire list for the world to either quake in fear or drool over.

Yeah, please people, you don't use military force to conquer territory anymore, that's SOOO last millenia.

You use global institutions like WTO and UN to force people to do what you want using carrots like low-interest loans or debt forgiveness or sticks like military and economic sanctions to drive theri economy into the dirt. It's all very civilized now.

I agree that the most likely way to achieve world domination would be the merging of all governments into one single government through non-violent means not quite like the UN but something more darker and sinister. But just for fun this is how I would theorize "World Takeover" through more violent means:

There is no amount of conventional weapons and manpower to sustain total global domination. There would have to be Nuclear weapons involved and the use thereof. All opposing governments (mainly the superpowers) would have to be eliminated using "nukes" but it would be crucial that they are not delivered via ICBMs as to avoid retaliatory launches against your own country. The Nukes would have to be physically transported to strategic locations and detonated enmasse and at the same time to cause the greatest amount of confusion and fear among the populace of the world. Immediately your Government lays blame to a terrorist mission to destroy the world as a means of buying some time to mobilize then quickly deploy your forces. Maybe even stage the capture of terrorists in your country to show the world you were next on the terrorists list for nuclear attacks. Follow up nuke attacks should be used in places that serve as rallying points for the weakened governments (ie FEMA camps, military consolidation areas, secondary capital cities...) After the decimation of the superpowers drop the dark hood from your head and reveal your governments true intentions, inform smaller governments to capitulate or suffer the same fate and that there are nukes currently in their countries readied for detonation given the command to do so. Then use your conventional forces to occupy or at least contain the ravaged superpowers and continue to destroy what's left of their infrastructure and government (capital cities, offices of power...). Conscription although unpopular would be a neccessary "evil" to accomplish the mission although there would be a whole host of nations willing to join in on your new found power and offer up their military and navies to get a piece of the pie. Send these puppet nations military to take care of any smaller nations that even think about revolting your world domination attempts. Revolts and uprisings against your forces will have to be punished in the most violent and brutal manner (public executions televised around the world) should also help to tame the masses. Humans by nature will revolt and rise up to challenge you and there is not much you can do about it but kill as many of the leadership of these uprisings as you can (having a strong and reliable intelligence agency with excellent infiltration abilities). Your Intelligence network should have already been in place and present in the anticipated problematic nations when the nukes are unleashed upon the superpowers. Your Secret Police will also have to be as vast as your standing army. Let loose these wolves to terrorize the world population, assasinations shall be the weapon of choice for this conflict. Instead of sending in Divisions of conventional forces to confront an uprising send in guerillas to battle the guerillas except you'll have all the firepower at your disposal.

Wow! World Domination is a lot harder than I thought!! Too many variables involved...to put it simply you need nukes, a very strong intelligence network, a very large standing army, vast amounts of natural resources, a strong understanding on how to wage unconventional warfare, smaller governments in your pocket, the latest in technologies and equipment, and a very evil and dark soul.
