View Full Version : Anybody here watch Detroit swat on A&E?
I was wondering if any members here were watching the replacment city(detroit) for dallas swat. I'm not trying to beat up the LEO community, but the detroit guys suck.

I agree. After watching Dallas SWAT the detroit dudes look poorly trained and poorly equipped.
They using visibly beat up MP-5's with no optics whatsoever, as compared to the Dallas guys who were using brand spankin new M-4 rip off's with all the trimmings. THe detroit guys dont stack up or flash when they breach either they just all sorta fumble through the door.

I got a DVD set a few years ago showing LAPD, Detroit, and one other (Dallas or Vegas). The Detroit SWAT team didn't look to be at the same level as the other two, but they're still doing a dangerous job for the public.

Yes because we can all judge the quality of a team based soley on their equiptment.
Once again Mr. Armchair Warrior proves himself superior. Clean-up aisle 4!

No Evan. The problem the detroit guys isn't the gear, it is the overall poor quality of training that is evident in their operations. tonight's episode is an excellent example. They brought out basically the whole team and the apc for a sitation that proved to be false. The neighbor made a false police report, but it looked bad for the team, as though they plunged head first into a mission plagued with bad intel. the 2nd mission again showed their showed significant error in the team. When they tried to breach the door, they found it extremely difficult to clear it. unfortunatly, they for the most part, froze, just standing at the entrance completely exposed. finally, someone had enough forethought to take out the window. Half the team never even wears a helmet. I see poor leadership as probably their biggest problem. Sorry for the **** gram; typed fast.

I will have to watch the show tonight then before making any assumptions. But I will take into account what you said.
Detroit is still a pretty poor city and I'm sure their Police Force has a long way to go as well.

I've seen it, but only the one episode where the guy holding the pry tool got his hand broken by the guy with the battering ram. As far as appearances go, they seem to be less technical with technique execution than the Dallas guys do. they have less high speed gear than the Dallas guys do. But what ,and where they are working is a dangerous place. They're getting the job done with what some would characterize as less. and as far as funding goes, I'm sure if you go to the more affluent section of Detroit, the Swat gear is probably alot more like the Dallas gear.

The problem I see with the team is their almost complete dependence on the apc. The guys from dallas may have used armoured vehicles for many ops, but most of the time they had the tactics and training to do a good takedown. the LEO swat dudes in detroit never seem to exhibit any real form of unity or tactics. Just use the apc and run in mass at any opening. they do the same when just breaching with handheld tools. I don't think I have ever seen them use gas, flashbangs, etc. the Dallas guys just seemed more competent. I have seen all of the detroit episodes that they has aired. Gear does not matter, the team does, but lack of protection on the head, etc. just seems like a bad idea.
