I've fired a Chinese copy of the AK that was utter crap. Was like a 30 round smoothbore bullet slingshot.

I've also fired a Chinese copy of the M-14 that was superior to a US MILSPEC version.

1) They are rapidly progressing technologically and commercialy. In a not too distant future, the Chinese will be able to maintain a viable middle class.

2) As we all know, freedom and democracy is not the guarantors of stbility or ever prosperity, it is a politically active middle class.

3) Their military has made dramatic improvements in doctrine and quality of equipment. Choosing to leap frog technological gaps, they have selectively improve some units and awaiting maturity of domestic production capability and financial sustainment or a gradual procurement process.

Hence, I would warn any and all not to understimate any enemy. After all we once thought Vietnam was gonna be an easy fight. Never dehumanize the enemy. Instead, rationalize his thought process, undertand his moves, achieve greater telepathy of his actions.

With these potentials, its seem inevitable that PRC will become a democracy in the next 50 years. Yes its a long time away, but for a culture that stretches over 5000 years, its nothing but a blink of the eye.

Finally, regardless of what you perceive, they are incapable of fighting us head on in open waters. However, to fight a land war with the PLA will be devastating, for both sides.

I think there is a design problem with the Type 95 rifle. Why is the firing
selector placed in the buttstock area, instead of above the pistol grip?

The SA80 has a similar design. It just might be easier to do it that way if you are adapting a bullpup from an existing "conventional" rifle - all you do is move the trigger assembly forward of the magazine well and link it back to where it was with a rod.
