I was recently surfing the Aussie military website when i came across a thing about foreigners joining. It said that people with previous experience in their home country could apply to join the Aussie army on a special program. I would be grateful if someone in the know could elaborate some more, i've come to a point where i'm not entirely sure what to do next, and i'm probing my options as to either go hippy and permanently work as a DM somewhere warm, continue service here at home, or join British or US forces (i'm eligible for both with some stringpulling). I was in Oz last year and really got a liking for the place, also had a chance to see the ADF at work and was quite impressed with that. As said, any info would be sweet.
Cheers,
Marcus

I would ring the recruitment office here (Im Aussie), they will have the info you need.
Oh yeah, Australia RAWKS, and you would probly be off to canberra (where the ADFA - Astralian Defence Force Academy) is, it is generally a bit colder then some areas (Especially Queensland).

Aye, thanks for that. Was thinking of dropping the Oz-recruitment office a mail at some stage. Already did with the UK MoD regarding enlistment over there, apparently had to submit some waivers etc. for not having lived in the UK the last five years. Also have loads of relatives in the US, so a greencard in the forces there is possible too apparently.
Also would you know if the ADF setup is technical trades only? Just so i have some bearings before making a serious'ish enquiry.
Anyhow, reckon i'll have a descision made by July-August sometime...

Civvy streets don't feel tempting yet?
If so and envisioned options possible go for Aussie service first, British army (or Royal navy for that matter) seccond, USMC third and US Army last.
From what you're used to from Norwegian army, be prepared for some rougher mentality and stricter "tin-soldier" type discipline.
Do well, but don't stick out. Be humble enough to admit that you start from square 1, and that your previous military experience won't count for much with new outfit.
Guess you know all that though, but from what I've seen of Norwegian ex Legionnaires, it seems the mental part of it is the hardest rather than the physical requirements.
French Foreign legion not an option?
Well, wish you good luck with the future.
Was thinking along the same lanes as yourselves once, and perhaps I should have gone for it while young enough. By going at least you do more to explore the facets of life than a common, rather than being soft fart satisfied with 9-4 job civvy life as myself.

I've been doing some furniture hauling jobs for a friend at a local civil engineer company, and my God what a dried out bunch who hangs around there day in - day out. They sure know their maths and how to figure out concrete block thickness and metal beam-strength, but that's about the only thing you can talk to them about.
Can't envision myself doing such a thing in the near future, and if, for countless years on end... :)
However, i think further Norge service is top priority ATM. FIST/H selection is most likely on for me in three weeks time, so a longer trip abroad is probably only realistic if i don't get through that for whatever reason. The FFL is definately not an option for me... I've heard some rather unnerving things about it from people who have served. I've also worked quite alot with the French in the Balkans, and i'm pretty sure i wouldn't fit into their mindset and way of doing things, especially not for five years or more. I'm sure US or something would be more my thing, but as you say, the relative laidback and thinking soldier mentality of the Norwegian forces would probably be something to miss.
Anyhow, thanks for reply, and have a good one!
The Thing,
Thanks for info mate, i'll probably drop them a line just to check. If the tech-thing is the case, then probably no luck for me. In military terms, i'm quite a bit more simple minded than a mechanic!
