Whats up with the TRNC? I haven't heard anything about it. Anyone know anything?
It's a pseudo-state "founded" in 1983, following quite thorough ethnic cleansing. Currently recognised by Turkey only. Right now Turkish settlers far outnumber genuine Turkish-Cypriots there. The soldiers you saw parading are not even Turkish-Cypriots, but members of the occupying force. After the fall of the Berlin Wall Nicosia (Lefkosia in Greek) remains the only divided capital of Europe. Recent reports by an American (If I remember correctly) studies group indicate that Greek and Greek-Cyprtiot POW/MIAs from the 1974 invasion were used for chemical and biological warfare experiments by the turkish military.

Of course that is the Greek version of the events. In reality Turkish soldiers stepped in during 1974 during the middle of an ethnic cleansing campaign against the Turks of the island by Greek Cypriot EOKA guerrillas. The Turkish campaign has, truthfully, saved the lives of both Turks and Greeks which would have been killed if further hostilities were allowed. To this day, Greek Cyprus refuses to give formal assurances that it will not continue the ethnic cleansing if the Turkish forces move out.

Also, the Soldiers you see in the photos were Northern Cyprus Division of Turkish Guard protection force. They are indeed from Cyprus, and their force is part of the overall Guard that protects the Turkish side of the island.

As far as chemical weapons allegations, every Greek Cypriot Website I could find makes references to Napalm being the chemical weapon being used against Greeks Cypriots. Yes, Turkish forces did use napalm during its invasion to protect the North. However, by almost any normal definition Napalm is not a chemical weapon--otherwise the US would be guilty of thousands of chemical weapon attacks in Vietnam. OF course they're not chemical weapons. Only recently has another type of allegation--the one referenced by Dark Avenger--surfaced. This allegation however contains neither proof the actions occurred, proof that Turkish forces in Cyprus had bio-chemical warfare capability, nor that the Turkish mainland had such capability at the time.

According these studies, it is REPORTED (we'll never know if true or not - dead POWs do not talk) that Greek & Greek-Cyprtiot POW/MIAs from the 1974 invasion were used as guinea pigs for military chemical and biological warfare experiments by Turkish military.

I love MP.net, the members are so diverse! And everyone hates each other for some other reason.... For example

Turks flame Cypriots, vice versa
Republicans flame Democrats, vice versa
Arabs flame Israelis, vice versa
Europeans flame Americans, vice versa
Other asians flame Japanese, vice versa
Georgians flame Russians, vice versa

What other board can you goto on the internet that has such a global community?p-)

I'm afraid not. All operators have successfully completed dive school. Training includes treads with weight well above his gear.

I am sorry for not introducing myself earlier, this is my first post and i just wanted to correct a minor inaccuracy, the soldiers mentioned above as paraguayan are, in fact, uruguayan pacekeepers.
