Maybe because he has a life and doesn't spend all of his free time on the internet like you do.

Give him a break...He hasn't been here as long as you, how's he supposed to just know? Almost everything military related has been posted here. Flaming for reposts isn't cool.

Just wondering, seeing the picture of the sweed(?) with the m82, he has a regular shooting position. I have learned to have my body in a stright line with the rifle, like firing an mg, to better take the recoil.
How is this practiced in other countries with the m82?

Oh god, why do you bother with posting this "This has been posted before"-stuff ?
1. You just bump the thread with that and get it back on the top.
2. Many people simply have not seen this pictures before, and you can't search for anything with the forum-search.
Just click the little X in the top right corner if you see pictures you already know.

The Advances Search feature makes all the difference.

I have not seen these photo's and have been here over a year. Is it really needed to tell someone that something is a repost - does it really require a comment.
If you have seen it good but why belittle someone telling them its old news.
sorry for getting offtopic
Good pictures.

It's American, the Barrett M99.

I know the mag fed variant of the 99 is in service, unsure of the 99 itself though.

The semi auto mag fed version is the M82 I believe.

I think the nomenclature relates to production start date, M95 =1995 (Bolt action mag fed), M99 =1999 (Bolt action single shot). The M99 is the entry level product circa $3k, intended for the civillian recreational market.

I think thats along the lines of what they were trying to say.
Question about the bolt action, is the accuracy inherently so much more as to make a difference? I understood the m82 to be very accurate itself.

I would consider the M82 semi automatic to be more then accurat enough, and with the ability to have a quick second shot to be more valuable then the small increase in accuracy you get with the bolt action.

Actually the M82 is known to be innacurate. Compared to other .50 sws. But it was built as an anti material weapon. I have heard (I have taken the Canadian sniper course, not American) That they have to often fire in volleys of 2 to 4 when engaging some targets because of the inacuracy.

I dunno, the M82 recoil wise isnt bad for a big rifle but I wouldnt call the followups "quick" by any means.

Most of the bolt guns are sub MOA, the M82A1 is 1MOA with match ammo, which is still respectable for a semi-auto. The 9lb trigger pull on the M82 would not be conducive to precision shots, 2.5lbs would be ideal.
The U.S. army experimented with B/A's but eventually selected the M82, it's more (logistically) practical to fire a volly of 4 standard .50BMG rounds than maintain a supply of match ammo. It kicks a lot less because the recoil is harnessed to cycle the action (like a 1911 handgun) and it weight of 33lbs.

I haven't had any problems with the accuracy of the M82A1NG with .50 MultiPurpuse ammunition. I have yet to try it at over 1000m, but under 1000m i hit the targets nearly every time. (If I miss, it's because og me, not the rifle)
And for the follow up shot. Every way I see it. It's faster then the bolt action.
