a good and effective ambush but there is one really important sentence that in contrary to the past, now soldiers have to walk on foot instead of riding APCs or tanks because Palestinians brought anti-tank weapons (they learned from Hezb in Lebanon). it means a real tactical change and potential for casulaties on the Israeli side. it is especially significant if you take into consideration that long range artillery fire is not only ineffective, but causes a lot of civilian casulties. very interesting material.

It mostly says that the IDF is testing its new doctrine in Gaza.

Awsome video. I looks like some soldiers are carrying AR15s. Is that the standard rifle for Israeli soldiers?

IDF Standard Issue M16 / AR15s are standart issue. Israeli police uses them

But I want to know what the soldiers are saying, not the commentator.

First of all it's a reserve unit. The Battalion CO is telling his men that their objective is to reconoiter the row of greenhouses you see at the beginning of the film. They're to look for tunnels, IEDs, weapons or explosives caches, things out of the ordinary.

The Captain who begins whispering is pointing at a lookout the IDF uses and that a set of lights is where they are headed. He also points out the close proximity of residential housing where they are in Khan Younis (been there, did that - 1987)

The comentator then tells about the snipers setting up shop in a Palestinian house, observing 3 terrorists on their way to lay down explosives along a route that they think IDF armor will use.

The officer on the radio is relaying their position and situation (what they're seeing). The other guys are pointing out where additional groups of Palestinians are situated. They're trying to determine whether anyone in these groups are armed. They identify (battalion CO w/ binoculars) the three next to a white house, in between the olive trees. Every so often one pops up to look or otherwise show himself. Then the snipers shoot and kill 3.

The captain is asked how many hot houses they need to check. He replies 4 or so. Then the wall starts caving in from the D-9, that's how they move from house to house, because the doors are usually being spotted by Palestinian snipers.

They pass to the green houses and question the man in the blue shirt. The next thing you see is a commander telling the men to count off (iron numbers?) typically done after an opration to make sure everyone is accounted for. then they head back to Israel (800 meters away) under cover of tanks laying smoke and firing MG bursts. The unit completes its reserve stint the next day and everyone is being careful, no one wants to be the last casualty.

Thanks a lot. So that fence they were going through in the end was back to Israel I figure.

Are we ever going to learn from the past?

I think it's just a matter of time until the terrorist hit a house were Israel
soldiers are positioned with their newly accuired Konkors and Matis missiles.

It's not spcified which AT weapon it was but probably RPG-7 of which
they thousands. Dur to the smaller amounts od launcher they will
probably save then for Israeli tanks or when a full scale invesion begins.

It's not like they are any safer outside, AT missiles can hit them everywhere.
The good thing is that they don't stay in the same house for a long time and that they destroy the walls of the house so that it can't be used again by OPFOR.

You don't have to have Konkurs or Metis missiles for that . Any simple ATGM would do job fine , infact ,RPG as well . Infact , even their home made Albanas and Yassins will do the trick .
And it's not matter of time , it happened allready . When we were in Beth Hanun , it happened (some palies shoot 2 RPG's inside house with Givati soldiers inside) . You just have to sit inside the house and have only essentual people near windows , and mascarade yourself .

RPGs and those al baatar or other home made rockets don't have
rannge, accuracy and the optical guidance system of the advanced
Russian ATGMs.
