What is the Swedish militarys job in Astan? Do they often come into contact with the Taliban, say compared with the Britis or Canadians?

To my knowledge they are part of the CIMIC (part of ISAF) and they are not participating as much to combat operations as British or Canadians. I think the mandate is similar to Finnish CIMIC -troops have?

Nope, as far as I know Sweden doesn't send troops to Afghanistan under a CIMIC mandate.

Here's (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=95983) a thread I created a few weeks ago RBJ, just in case you're interested.

I thought they killed the "leader" of a criminal gang?

At first sweden sent SSG to afghanistan, there were 9 rotations before any "ordinary" soldiers got to the country. After them the Army Rangers got the job of manning the rotations 9-10 and the Intelligence- Reinforceplatoon and Military Observation Teams for rotations 10-12

Wat SSG did under their time in the country nobody knows. Rumours says that the SAS/UK asked Sweden if they could send them to Afghanistan.

Now Sweden is manning the PRT MES (Provincial Reconstruction Team Mazar-i-Sharif) and the camp Camp Northern Lights.

But isn't the PRT and CIMIC part of the ISAF -operation. Also Finns are participating to PRT -operation and therefore I though that the mandate could be similar to Finns.

Sweden went to Afghanistan under UN:resolusion[1386] in 2001,
Under 2002 sweden changed and went under (CIMIC, Civil Military Cooperation)
But wen Sweden was to be of the british PRT Mazar-i-Sharif they terminated the CIMIC contribution in 04, and went under the new UN:resolusion[1510] that gave ISAF a bigger rôle in the outside Kabul.
And in the spring of 2006 sweden took over PRT Mazar-i-Sharif.
Then we have people in:
FSB (Forward Support Base) Mazar-i-Sharif
NSE (National Support Element) Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif
NIC (National Intelligence Cell) Kabul
RAC (Regional Area Coordinator) Kunduz

I believe that the Finns that are a part of the PRT Mazar-i-Sharif go under UN:resolusion[1510].
