There was here several people that wanted to know information about it . Unfortunatly , most of information about it (only information about it) , exist in Hebrew , causing several people to claim (mr. Nielsen , that would be you ) about cover up of allegedly massacre . So , i am translating an existing matterial from Hebrew sources .
The first matterial on the battle comes from independent Intellegence community research center . It describes the fighting in Jenin , from the eyes of Palestinian fighters , that were interviewed after their capture .

Ok , first i will ask pardon , for my pity knowledge of English ,and if i have mistakes , please correct . I hope i am not typing this and wasting time for nothing , and people would read it . I will post the info bu chapters , sence it's hard to translate and write it in one time . And my time is pretty limited .

Last thing . Please , i don't stand politics , and that's the last reason for posting this article . I was asked by the member of the forum in private to present him information , and perhaps that would be your only source to get any information . First Chapter : Introduction .

The battle in refugee camp Jenin in first half of April 2002 (from 4 - 11 April) , as a part of operation "Wall Shield" , against Palestinian terror infrastructures , has became the simbol of Palestinian resistance in the international community , as part of Intifada that started in 28 September 2000 . Palestinian Authority accuses Israel in massive slaughtery of naive Palestinian community , and it's try to assimilate the herritage of "massacre of Jenin refugee camp" inside Palestinian public , as one of the crutual conflict points in the history of struggle for Palestinian cause against Zionism in "Palestine " territory (means entire Israel) .

The Israeli point of view focuses from completely different point of view then the Palestinians . Jenin , and specialy the refugee camp inside it were , in Israeli eyes , simbol of the terror rule that was developed under the Palestinian authority (* It's called "the capital of suicide killers" , or "the capital of terror" , in Israel - Javehn ) . Therefore , the act in Jenin viewed by Israelies , as a legit act , that based on the right of self defence , and it's civilians , right that's reserved to any country . Israel has rejected the claims of massacre , that was done in civil population , and claimed , that there were fierce fighting inside the camp , against well organised and discipline , heavy armed Palestinian force .

The evidence of Palestinian fighters , and of the inhibitants of refugee camp (as they were posted in Palestine / Arabic newspapers , Palestinian Internet sites , and media ) of a fighting , during and after the fight , on close of Jenin battle one year annual , reveals another side of the battle that took place in Jenin refugee camp , in operation "Wall Shield" . During operation there were killed 23 Israeli soldiers , and 52 Palestinians .

The claimes , that were sounded by Palestinians politics , on a matter of massacre that was done by IDF soldier in innocent and naive local population , are in direct contradict of evidence made by Palestinian fighters . Those described the fighting , as a heroic military campain , that conducted by few against many , and could stand against them with help of deepest fate , of rightness of their way , and their idiological belliefes .

Jenin refugee camp was even before a stronghold of Palestinian military wings (that were declared by US and EU as terror groups) , that leaded the armed struggle against Israeli settlers in Jehudea and Somron (*West Bank - Javehn) , and inside Israeli cities , in the territory of sovereign state of Israel . The pride of Jenin militant groups was , that Jenin named "Suicide capital" , because of the large ammount of suicide killers that departured from the city .



The praparations :

The palestinian fighters (in Jenin -Javehn ) organised well to the combat , and turn Jenin refugee camp into fortified military array . The Palestinian defence doctrine based on perimeter defence - graded strip of powerfull IED's , that were placed on the entrances to the city , and ment to slow the advance of IDF armor column to the refugee camp . Inside the camp , the combatants prepared to fight , inside fire and observation controling spots , and in the possible contact spots with the IDF soldiers . Inside the camp were made extensive use of IED's , ****y trapping , mining , and explosives planting inside the streets , and inside the houses . The ammounts of explosive matterial used in camp were huge , and reached up to 2 Tons of explosive matterial , that were made to prepare thousands of different size and purpoce explosive charges , except the wast ammount of firearms that Palestinian fighters held .

The palestinian combatants conducted military campain , that was expressed throout preparation faze , and building the plan of camp defence , a way to establish coordination of fighting pattern between different militant organisations , and ending with establishment of some frame of command and control over the Palestinian fighting forces . The patterns of Palestinian combtants fighting was similar to those , of a regular army - placement of Observers to intellegence gathering , sharing of information between combatants in real time , ambushes emplacements, "channeling" of IDF troops to inferior ground , and "destruction territory" (* military term , means perimeter that is inferior , and controlled with fire and observation from most of it's side - Javehn ) , that were preprepared , managment of initiated attackes on IDF troops that took positions in build areas , imitation of operational methods of Israeli army in build territories , use of deception and sort of Psi warfare , in order to brake spirit of IDF soldiers .

The close cooperation between the combatants , and the local population of the refugee camp , allowed the combatants to have some sort of so called "strategic rear" . It granted them neaded Logistic supply ,(food , shelter , safe passage from spot to spot) , information about the movement of IDF troops inside the camp , and the most important, the civilian masking , on which the combatants rellied most . Women and Chidlren played important role in fighting , they acted as messangers , informers , and so on . They even took part in operational fighting against Israeli troops along side with combatants , trying to "channel" soldiers to "destruction areas" , or ****y trapped areas , and throwing improvised charges , and hand grenades .

After action review (AAR) indicates , that at list 34 out of 52 (65 percent) Palestinian killed in the camp were members of militant group , or took active part in combats .

The campain view , from the Palestinian side , teaches us on hard fighting in build up territories . The Palestinian fighters used their relative advantage as a protectors of their stronghold , inside dense Urban surrounding , that was very much familiar to combatants . They often succeed to change the firepower balance to their advantage , by dragging Israeli troops in places , where the fighting from house to house gave advantage to those who knew the ground , and neutralised Israeli soldiers supperiority . That was military campain between IDF task force , and Palestinian force that counted between 100-250 combatants , desicive most of them were actives in terror organisations , and/or members of Palestinian security services . The force that organised , and fought in Jenin , as a military force .

Chapter 2 : The defence plan of combatants over the refugee camp .


One of the members of militant wing of Hamas , "Iz A Din El Kasam regiments" , described in details the fighting advance , which he witnessed , and in some he participated . In his testimony , that was posted in official Ez A Dain El Kasam website , he revealed (his name isn't mentioned) the praparations that was done by activists of different militant groups , for the battle of Jenin . Fron his testimony it becames clear , that the Palestinian fighter was wery well prepared to the expected battle , in field of ammo and weaponry , food , medicine , Command and control over the fighting forces , intellegence gathering , and designing the perimeter defence of the camp , with mining , and Sniper positions . From fear, that the cellular net of Israeli phones would be disconnected (Israeli net Pelephon and Selcom) before the action by Israel , the combatants agreed to use only the phones of GSM Orange company , that was also operated in PA (Named Jawal net ) , and the use of MIRS phones (* Cellular walky talky - Javehn ) . Also , special communications squads were assigned , that were supposed to deliver updated info on the events inside the camp . That allowed the combatant forces recieve an updated and flowing information , the movement of IDF forces , and be ready to open precise fire on them , while they came close to ambush spot (* one of succeses in this field was an ellimination of supposudly innocent dog , that run toward the fighter in one of the campain days . The dog was eliminated , and a device was found on it's body . One of the combatants took the device from the dog , planted it in water , and throw it towards IDF soldiers ) .

Due to the dense Urban characteristics of the camp , and fear from "blue on blue" (*Friendly fire - Javehn) , tha Palestinian combatants arrenged between themself a method of confrontation of whereabouts of IDF soldiers inside the camp . The report was confronted , when an authorized combatant , or two eye witnesses confirmed the report .

From the report of the Hamas activist , can be learned that the fight in Jenin can be very tough , and prolonged . Therefore , the militant groups of Fatah (El Akza Brigades) , Hamas (Ez A Din El Kasam) , and Islamic Jihad (El Kuds companies ) coordinated their setting inside the camp , and set agreed spots of ammo and weaponry slicks , food slicks , and even an improvised field hospital inside the camp . Every organisation had it's own "warehouse" , and it's responsible was called "Amin" (Amin - Incharge in Arabic) . Evening of IDF incursion inside the camp , the Palestinian fighter had (according to the combatant witness) 15,000 different charges and grenades , one RPG (another one taken from IDF soldiers during the combat) , 8 LAW , limited number of Machine guns , and many available firing arms from M-16 and Kalachnikov type . In order to use ammo in most effective way , it was agreed that the combatants wouldn't fire in wasting ammo manner , that is not targeted to clear objects , and it was agreed , that coordination between different groups in different naighbours will take place , in order to transfer ammunition between forces in most effective way .

The coordination commity between Palestinian combatant groups also determined the plan of defence , over the refugee camp , according to analysys of Urban territory (Controlling areas, week points , Etc) , and an assasement of IDF way of action . On the basis of Analysys it was decided , that the defence system would be based on ****y trapping , ambushes , and Snyper shooting with early coordination between all the groups of combatants . Additionaly , Palestinian fighters agreed on next operational principles (the principle contents was passed to the refugee camp inhibitants as well ) :
-Every naighbour will have it's Commander , and every naighbour will act according to Command decissions .
-Full Subordination to the commands .
-Avoiding of running away , when soldiers are in sight .
-Radio contact with group members , in presceduled time .
-Avoiding of Cellular phone use , while chopers flying over the camp .
-No passage between naighborhoods , only after previos coordination , in order to prevent wrong ID , and friendlt fire .
-Not leaving the post before the replacement had arrived .
-Leaving the houses in refugee camp open , in order to make movement of combatant more easy from house to house .
-Standart communication between fighter . "Allah Akbar" regular days prare , which all people that hear it must join the prare , means that Palestine fighter has been killed . "Allah Akbar" prare for hollydays , which every one that hears it , joins the prare , means IDF force surrounded , or Israeli soldier killed .
- Planned Ambush - Shooting towards soldiers , and run away towards prepared ambush , to make them react , and to draw them this way inside well prepared ambush .

Part 3 : Explosive devices - Main component of Jenin Battle .



The evidenve of that Hamas members are consistent with broshure "The exit towards the Refugee camp" , that was published by Thaabat Mardawi , one of the leaders of militant part of "Islamic Jihad" movement (This day he is serving his time in prisson , on charge of killing dosend Israeli civilians ) , a year after the battle (April 2003) . That's what Mardaawi written about the preparation inside the camp , towards the evening of Israeli incursion :

"Our standart policy was to keep at all the times sufficient ammount of ammunition and firearms , depending on our ability , and the status of the weapons market . According to our policy , we did our best to constantly rearm ourself , to purchase ammo and weaponry , and the supplies that were needed to create explosive devices . To that purpoce , special commities and teams were organised , when each group had it's own area of expertise on purchasing and preparing of explosive charges .

When we accured to us , that the date of incursion is imminent , , and it's a matter of just single days , we drafted all the members and activists of "Al Quds companies" group . They were in state of high alert , and fully
ready to combat . In those few days , the efforts of arming and explosives producing were doubled , and even trippled . Weapons and ammunition were aquired , even in high prices . On a matter of explosive device , we enhanced our efforts to produce powerfull devices in big numbers , according to the time and abillities we had in our service . Aproximatly 3 Tons of material for explosive device were bought . A special commity on that matter , lead by Mahmud Twalba , worked day and night until he managed to prepare 2 Tons of explosive matterial in their final configuration , just in a matter of 10 days . "

On this context , Ramadan Shelah , the head of Islamic Jihad , said in an interview to "Al Hiat" newspaper in late April 2002 : "Jihad warriors ... produced large quantities of explosive matterial , and Muhamad Twalba himself , that was an "ingeneer" (the expert of explosive devices ) , produced over 1000 kg of explosive matterial on the evening of incursion . "

Mardawi added , and explained that in his memory book of Jenin events that " After the explosive matterial was produced , the commity responcible started to transform the pure matterial into explosive devices . The big ones ment for tanks and armored vehicles , and smaller ones in different sizes ment for soldiers . In adition , more then 1000 small charges were produced , in order to act as a grenades ... called Tube Charges (Akwa'a in Arabic) " .

"After the devices were ready , in their final form , they were taken and placed in all of entries and exits inside the refugee camp . Their implacement made in a similar way , that is done in the military . In such matter , that if the first line of charges is "penetrated" , you still have the second line after it , and the thrid andso on .. - in graded way . When the charges were placed , they were placed in mixed way , anti infantry charges together with anti vehicle charges . Also , a large quantity of explosive device left for a back up and emergensies , and to close the spots that were neglected .

The places were the big charges placed were the places , when the Zayuni (*Zionist - Javehn) forces could enter with their heavy vehicles , and specialy the main street that entered to refugee camp from 2 places , street "Alseka" , street "Al -R'abez" , the entering street to "Al Demj" naighborhoud , the main squares inside the camp , the area near Jenin Hospital square in the north entering to the camp , and Al Jebriat sector " . Mardawi ellaborated on his book , that Palestinian defend forces deployed in the camp , according to the plan . Group of warriors under the command of Mahmud Twalba (Islamic Jihad) , was responsible for the west junction of the camp , other group commanded by Ali Sfuri (Islamic Jihad) concentrated in AlHawashin naighborhoud , another group under the command of Taabat Mardawi took responsobility for junction of Eldjam naighborhoud , and smaller groups of Islamic Jihad were posted in different locations throwout the camp . Also , except the Islamic Jihad fighters , there was several independent fighters , and a group of warriors that belonged to Palestinian Security services , under the command of "Abu Jandel" .

Chapter 4 - ****y trapping of the suspects buildings , before the combat .


From the analysis of previous operations of IDF inside Palestinian refugee camps , Palestinian organisations learned that Israeli army uses armored heavy equipment masively (Tanks and APC) , and it's uses infantry forces in order to search primary suspects inside suspected buildings . The Palestinians prepared before the fight heavy charges against tanks , and ****y trapped dousands of houses inside the camp , that if IDF soldiers will enter inside to perfom search , it will collapse on them .


Islamic Jihad leader , Ramadan Shelah claims , according to information he recieved from the organisation activists , that the charges were placed in different places throwout the camp , like in trash cans , vehicles ,specialy the vehicles of the Jihad activists , that were wanted by Israeli security ) - and in their houses . The young fighters estimated , that IDF would search inside wanted militants houses , so they evacuated the houses , and ****y trapped them . They ****y trapped doors , furnatures , book closets , closets , and so on . After the incursion started , they blow up several houses , like of the killed Mahmud Twalba ."

Same description arrise from "Omar" (false name) testimony , one of the fighters inside the refugee camp , that was considered as an "ingeneer" . "Ingeneer" , a nick given by militant groups , for professionals on explosives . In his interview to Journalist Jonathan Koock , that was published in dayly Egypt "Alahram Weekly" newspaper (issue 582 , 18-24 April 2002 ) , "Omar" said :

"From all the fighters in the west bank , we were the most prepared . Even a year before the incursion , we started to work on our planes , where to set ambushes to the soldiers . We prepared over 50 ****y trapped houses inside the camp . We ****y trapped old deserted houses , and the houses of wanted by Israel , because we knew they come search for them in their houses . We cut down water pipes , stuffed them with explosives , "nailed" them , and trapped them inside the houses , inside coffins , under sinks , inside couches " . Omaralso mentioned , that they hoped to neutralised Israeli tanks , by large IED's that were placed inside garbage cans , on the streets . Also they ****y trapped , according to him , the cars of wanted , and attached to explosives to the car battery . According to Omar , every one in the camp , including kids knew the whereabouts of the charges .
