Have been taking an archery class this last semester of college and am getting into this whole archery thing. I am thinking about buying a bow (shooting recurves in class) but I want a good compound bow. Preferably something I might be able to use for target shooting and bow hunting as well, perhaps in the future. Any suggestions from the Robin Hoods out there? Price range is negotiable but I was hoping to get a good first bow for under $500...

Try these guys http://www.huntersfriend.com
They have a whole bunch of ready-to-go packages in different price ranges http://www.huntersfriend.com/bowpkg2.htm
I bought a PSE Firestorm Lite from them a while back - it was a hassle for me getting it out here to South Africa - shipping would have been more than the bow, but you won't have a problem with that - they'll Fedex it to your door seeing as you're in Texas.

I´ve had Browning and PSE hunting bows, both very nice and good for limited target shooting, 80 lbs tires you out pretty fast.
But i grew tired of them as the shooting is not as intuitive as with traditional shooting with longbows and recurves.
I´ve been dying to get me one from this http://www.grozerarchery.com

Hoyt, Bowtech, Matthews, Onieda Eagle.
Can't go wrong with any of them.
