As you may know... or you may not, Hapoel Jerusalem won the UlebCup (the second best league after the euroleage).

from www.ulebcup.com

A first-time finalist has written its name into European basketball history as Hapoel Jerusalem defeated Real Madrid 72-83

at the ULEB Cup Final in Charleroi, Belgium on Tuesday! Hapoel overcame the most successful club in European history to become just the second Israeli team ever to lift a continental trophy. Almost 2,000 fans from Jerusalem, part of a sellout crowd of 6,500 at the Spiroudome, danced in the aisles to celebrate Hapoel's victory, which was based on a monster third quarter that saw their game-long lead soar to 15 points. Madrid rallied to within 5 in the closing minutes, but then ran out of time. Kelly McCarty, voted the final MVP, led Hapoel with 22 points, Will Solomon and Doron Sheffer added 15 each, while Tunji Awojobi had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Elmer Bennett led Madrid with 22 points. In addition to becoming the second ULEB Cup titlest, Hapoel earned the right to participate in the Euroleague next season.

Hapoel beats Madrid 83-72!!!!
beeing the second israeli team that wins an europen title (Macabi Tel-Aviv took twice the the euroleague cups and now they are in the final four, go tel aviv :D)

Anyway like some one from Hapoel said - the funny thing we are not in euro but we are european champions

mabye Hapoel was the underdog but they had one of thier best games (if you ask me they played even better than macabi tel aviv)

One should know that Hapoel only has a budget of 3 million $ while Madrid has 13$ ! (ok ok thats not like the NBA we know but Madrid is a top euroleague team with a great history and VERY good players)

I saw the game and i could say Hapoel looked like it was easy to win Madrid (clearly not) they fought with all thier heart and Kelly
McCARTY was choosen for the MVP of the game after just "sniping" Madrid basket from 3 (he had hot hand that night i would say).
not to montion:
Doron SHEFFER leadership and smart play that was able to orginaze the team and just beat the crap outta madrid.

Tunji AWOJOBI with great pass and rebounds (didnt you know he is a BOXER?! many said he is one of the best tall passers in europe).

And of course Willie SOLOMON mabye the best forigner Israel had for a while (he will clearly join the NBA next session) that well... Willie is Willie..its hard to stop him...

(Note - this 4 played in USA universties and was chosen to the NBA draft..i guess Willie is a hidden talent)

Ido KOZIKARO as some people said he is a human wall that gave trouble to Madrid in his perfect defeance rebounds (god i saw him just standing and some player is running and didnt saw Ido and just fall backward when his face met Ido's back) any many more players that gave everything they had.

Anyway Hapoel gave a top quailty game that i really enjoyed to watch (even if i'm a fan of macabi tel aviv)...they led allmost from the begining and im happy to see another Israeli team succeeding in europe

And i really think we should appricate Sharon DRUCKER the coach, he is only 36years old but already took a european title with a low budget team but he managed to make a REAL TEAM... that played like a TEAM and won like a TEAM...and hell even kicked macabi tel aviv ass in the israeli league

What i can say.. while we clearly suck in football (mabye we have 3-4 top players in euro but thats it) the Israeli basketball is just getting better and better...and hopefully Macabi Tel Aviv will win the final four (that is in tel aviv) and next year Hapoel will even do better...

Next Mission - having an israeli player in the NBA (hell i guess we will have next year or some thing... some huge israeli player that playing in the universites league) ;)

Good Job Hapoel (even if you are the "reds") woot  woot

Remember when the Lithuanian Olympic Basketball Team couldn't even afford jerseys, so the Greatful Dead donated tie-died jerseys, and they went on to win the BRONZE in hippie clothes?

That rocked.

Two Israeli ice skating and dancing pairs, both of whom trained at The Canada Centre – The Israel National Centre for Winter Sports in northern Israel, have recently won bronze medals at international competitions, giving Israel its first-ever winter sports medals. In a surprise move that captured headlines in Israel, one of the pairs, ice dancers Galit Chait and Sergei Sakhnovsky, also have just been named Outstanding Sportsmen for 2002 by the National Olympic Committee of Israel. This marks the first time that athletes in the winter sports have won this special Israel national designation.

I used to play Ice hockey in that "sport center"...

I joined the army just when our team started to travel the world

Well, considering Israel is VERY new in winter sports... it's nice.

The first Ice hockey game of team Israel and team Canda (early 90's) ended up 21:1 rofl
