Russian maskirovka

The tactics that were used by the russians to deceive the germans in WWII are widely known as maskirovka.What i want to ask is when and where it was later used? (not only by the russians).One example i have found was yum kippur, anyone else known in which other military confrontations was it used?

May not be quite the example you're looking for, but Serbs reportedly used a well-coordinated decoy strategy to avoid destruction of their armour by NATO airstrikes during the Kosovo campaign.

The USSR military refered to maskirovka as:

All the measures that are taken for the security of the military engagements and day to day actions of the troops.It is a web of measures that intend to mislead the enemy from knowning the positions and strength of troops, their main objectives, their condition, their combat readiness and capability to udertake military actions including the plans of high command.Maskirovka contributs in :
1:Suprise
2:Maintaining military strength
3:Incresed chances for accomplicement of strategic and operational objectives.

I know of the serbian attempt to mislead NATO during the bombing campaing in kosovo and although it has many similarities with maskirovka it is not what i am looking for.I am looking for aggrecive uses of maskirovka (whether they were succesfull or unsuccesfull).

The North Vietnamese dug in and camouflaged whole divisions.

You are right it is interesting, only to imagine how many multimillion dollar missiles were used against those wooden decoys.:)

The subterranian network of the vietnamese although it is interesting, its not an example of maskirovka tactics.

The only real example of maskirovka ,i am aware of, in the vietnam war were the preparations of the tet offensive.

Yes i aslo heard of wooden tanks.And placing small radar emitting devices(i don't know what) in open fields away from hardware
so that they would just bomb countryside and not military hardware. Thats when they changed from bombing military to civilian targets as well.

Using decoys was (and still is) a part of maskirovka.The decoys are meant to attract the enemy attention (and firepower) away from the real troops.But maskirovka is far more deeper than that.I will post my theory findings in a few days (limited time, lots of info).As for the civilians someone who is very cinical whould say "Its war **** happens".But some consider that attacking civilians is a form of political pressure.:-(

Yes some would say it is terror bombing as well "political pressure is a nice way of saying it.:-(

The Serbs used MIG-21 radars removed from the radomes of the Fishbeds as radar decoys during the Kosovo war.

One USAF pilot claimed in Time magazine he destroyed a Serb MIG-21 by firing a HARM missile at it as it took off from it's airfield.

He may have being fooled by a decoy.

I remember hearing, that during WW2, Russians would use trucks pulling cut down trees behind them, thus creating a lot of dust, making an impression of large force being on the move.
