Does anyone know if the U.S. / Coalition forces encountered them in Iraq in 2003?
South Africa sold a few hundred to Iraq in the 1980s. Not a very smart move, I suppose; but we needed the oil back then because of sanctions (viz. Apartheid).

I am pretty sure that our warplanes knocked 'em out before the Iraqi's had a chance to use them.

While i agree sixgun is a moron, i also agree with what he says in this case.

That is very true. The Iraqi artillery pieces were one of the first things to get hit, mainly by F/A-18's based on the Constellation. Primarily because of the possibilty that they could have fired chemical weapons from these pieces.

It was the second best artillery in the world. They had to go first.

They were probably among the huge amount of kit that was shuffled aside by Iraqi Army commanders already in contact with the Americans for use by a future Iraqi army.
