99% of SF use the M4 or equivilant. Should put to rest any debates about 5.56mm rifle is the best for SF and other combat operations.

Well. The Beretta AR70/90 is 5.56 too. So there are other reasons for that.

yes, but M4 are more modular (picatinny rails etc...) and lighter, more suitable for special forces

Plus,
When SF units are operating together parts are more accessible. The M4/C8 is a proven weapon in all terrains and all weather conditions.

If so, how come USSOCOM is looking for a new weapon -SCAR- to replace it?

I had heard that they were, but at the moment they are not looking for a replacement, but rather a new caliber weapon, I believe 6.5mm or 6.9 or something like that.
And they were having a hard time finding a new 5.56mm that could perfom as well as the m4 and still be as low cost and effective.
Think about it man, we can have a "my country's weapon is better than yours" fight, but everyone knows and can see that the majority of SF units use the m4. There must be a reason for that.
