Yes. It's the first time China providing close protection for diplomats. The 6-men team comes from Armed Police's Special Police Units.

nothing wrong with taped magazines I think. If it was a German SMG or rifle they would sell a magazine clip for 100+ dollars. Tape is cheaper.

the guns is a bull pup, so it would be smaller than a regular rifle like the M16A2. Someone at the Chinadefense.forum say it's the same as a M4 with the stock fully extended.

It's not really covert ops, so does the camo body armour hurts? Chinese police and swat units have black BA, maybe these are army guys with reg stuff

and yes, no lasers, no Aimpoints, no knee protec caps and no base ball hats :D
