hang on baseball palayers wear padding even the pitcher wears a bloody helmet unlike in cricket, and the catcher behind the hitter wears more padding then anyone does in cricket, I've picked up a baseball and a cricket ball before and the baseball is bigger and lighter, the cricket ball is heavier harder smaller and hence harder to hit. Especiakky since you get more spin of the ground then you do of the air.
what is the difference between an american football tackle and a rugby tackle? do you think rugby players hold back? and yes I have been sacked by a tackle when I played rugby at school.

The difference is that American Football linebackers usually tend to way over 300 pounds and can move surprisingly fast for their size. Any let's not forget, mass times acceleration equals force. ;)
Anyway, with that said, here in the US we SHOULD call soccer as football, but what are you going to do? As for American Football, it's not necessarily worse than rugby but a very different branch of it. It evolved from rugby in the 1800's and is pretty much a completely different game nowadays. Rugby is more like soccer (football :P) than like American Football.

Brett Lee can bowl at just under 100mph and it bounces off a cracking and crumbling pitch with a ball that has a raised seam. Even he doesn't know where it is going. Good enough reasons to wear pads and helmets in my opinion.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think the first recorded game of rugby happened at Rugby school when a young bloke (his name escapes me) picked up the football and ran with it.
If your looking for big hits, look no further than Aussie rules. No protective gear and the hits can come from 360 degrees.

International rules is pretty big here, we don't have rep footy any more so playing the Irish is the only opportunity to see all of our better players in the same side.
Tadhg Kennelly from Sydney just played last week after having knee surgery 10 days before, he's a hard little bugger. There is also a young Australian born Irish raised kid called Setanta O hAilpin at Carlton. I think he had a hurling background, he will probably get a few games this year if he can adapt to the different shaped ball.
The youth series was just played, looks like the visiting team won again, like has happened in the seniors over the past few years.

Irish clinch Youth Series
11:27:54 PM Thu 15 April, 2004
Australian Football League
Ireland has tonight clinched the International Rules Youth Series with a two-point victory over Australia in the decisive third Test at Fremantle.
As has been the pattern in the series, the Irish started in dominant fashion with their greater round-ball skills before the Australians surged back into the match with their fitness advantage.
Ireland led by a massive 26 points at half time but Australia pulled the margin back with an outstanding third quarter and was deep in attack when the siren sounded to end the series.
The victory is Ireland's first series victory in Australia, after its maiden victory in these matches in Ireland last year. Scores are goals (six points), overs (three points) and behinds (one point) for the final total.
Ireland: 3.6.8 (44)
Australia: 2.5.15 (42)
Scorers: Ireland: Rogers 1.2.0, Kerrigan 1.2.0, O'Brien 1.0.2, Moran 0.0.4, Breathnach 0.1.0, O'Neill 0.1.0, Ward 0.0.1, Hogan 0.0.1
Australia: Dolling 2.0.0, Clark 0.2.0, Franklin 0.1.3, Sherman 0.1.3, Stribling 0.0.4, Hall 0.1.0, Gianfagna 0.0.2, Kennedy 0.0.1, Monfries 0.0.1, Swallow 0.0.1
Best: Ireland: Rogers, Vernon, Begley, Moran, Hughes, Quigley
Australia: Morton, Franklin, Burke, Dolling, Roughead, Monfries

Well last time I checked, you don't really have organized and separated plays (downtime, really) in rugby like there is in US football, do you?
and that is how you determine if a sport is more akin to another?
by that logic, cricket would be similar to american football

i think he means that rugby flows more like soccer than NFL/NCAA football. In rugby u don't run a play, pause ;sub a whole bunch of people in and out (depending on the situation), adjust the markers for down and distance, and/or have referees make long winded explanations for infractions that no one (not fans, players, or coaches) understand or agree with, then have a pissed off coach demand an instant replay to overturn the call, after the final decision is made then they run another play (and the whole freakin cycle starts again)!
Rugby tends to flow up and down the field in a constant motion, it only stops (if that is an accurate term) for the scrum. in soccer the only time u stop is for free kicks (for fouls) and times in which the ball (throw ins, corners, goal kicks) goes out of play(other than injuries which applies to all three sports of course).
NFL/NCAA football is far more methodical that rugby or soccer. I love both soccer (Real Madrid and *sigh* Liverpool) and football (University of Miami and *sigh* NY Giants)
Correct me if i'm wrong
back on topic sometimes she looks good (the rocawear ad in times square NYC) sometimes she dosen't (the pic in romulus' post looks skeletal!)

I can't believe ya'll are having the rugby vs football argument that ****'s retarded. Do some pushups.
I just wanted to address this.
what is the difference between an american football tackle and a rugby tackle?
The Laws of the Game expressly forbid any type of dangerous tackling, such as high tackling or leaving the feet in a body block style, which can be injurious to both defender and ball carrier.
American football allows these large men who run very quickly to leave their feet, hit high, and hit with the helmet first.
However, the two sports are very different and the argument is a juvenile one wouldn't you agree Cut?
