I am a bit of a historian in my spare time, particularly specialising in the American Revolutionary War / Civil War and also the Old West. I am quite well read on all subjects, but am always on the lookout for new books. At the moment, I've exhausted my local Waterstones. I've got two requests really, can anyone recommend any good history books on these subjects that they have read, and also are there any decent computer games on these subjects? I have just gotten a new PC and am interested if there are any good subject matter games out there. Tactical or strategy, doesn't matter.

If anyone is interested, I'll post my photos of Concord, Mass. where I went on holiday a couple of years back.

Sid Miers *****sburg/Antietam were really good Civil War games. Pretty old now though, you'd probably have to order them on the net.

The Civil War rules! If there is one man I admire, it's Lee. But I used to love the old old old North versus South game. :P

I was more into the Napoleonics, but Avalon Hill had a kick but series of board games.

I was more of a miniature gaming guy anyway.

Hell maybe I'll take some pics of my miniatures which I still have in the back of a dusty closet and post them.

You learn ahell of a alot about history and militaria recreating campaigns in miniature gaming. No boot up and play there!

Huh, you got me curious, so I looked for a gaming group I used to go to.
Sure enough they had a site up.

I recently read this book and highly recommend it. Oral history is the best way to get a flavor of what was really happening. From big battles to small, sailors, spies, soldiers and widows:

If you ever make it back CX20, consider having a look through Bucks County, Pennsylvania...quite a bit of Revolutionary era history there and in close proximity to other areas of era significance(Trenton and Valley Forge to name two).
