At first light Bravo Company of the Royal Canadian Dragoons Battle Group (RCD BG) sprinted up a steep, narrow street in the medieval quarter of Travnik (in south-central Bosnia) to surround two homes in the shadow of the town's imposing fortress. Numerous hand grenades and ammunition were seized from a home. By early afternoon, with the search complete, the Canadians were dismantling their command posts and returning to their bases in Drvar and Zgon. Stabilization Force units from across Bosnia-Herzegovina participated in the operation to collect illegal arms and ammunition. This operation was one of the last for members of the RCD BG.

Soldiers of the Royal Canadian Dragoons Battle Group in the village of Vrhpolje, Bosnia, search for illegal weapons and munitions January 5, 2004. Shown here is some of the confiscated ammunition found in a home. Operations like these are done in cooperation with the local police, in villages often suggested by the police themselves. The troops go door to door asking if the occupants have anything they'd like to get rid of - and then they ask if the occupant would mind if the troops search the home. Most Bosnians have become used to this and understand that ridding the country of illegal munitions makes everyone safer.
