And it looks stupid now. It appears that the super-pooper hero guy was helping Taliban and Al-Qaeda against USA. Not something to be proud of.

Iraqis are doing the same now, yet they are called "insurgents and terrorist" and "sand******s and ragheads". Go figure, one's man freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.
Don't give me that crap about the "opressor". Your polish guys are in Iraq doing the very same thing that the Soviets were doing in Afghanistan so shut up.

Who is on crack, buddy? Bin Laden just didn't appear from nowhere, he was an active commander of mujahedeen in the 80's in Aghanistan. He just happened to be "your good son of a bitch". Go learn some history or quit smocking that crack pipe.

Hollywood can't even put a wight chopper in, and not to mention how Rambo was controlling a tank only by him-self, :cantbeli: or is there a secret tank which needed only one person to operate it? :cantbeli:

It is one of the same Pumas used in Red Dawn.
Just like the Tiger tank in Kellys heros and Saving Private Ryan was the same Russian T-34.
Considering how rare the equipment was at the time, they were very good conversions.

ibstolidude,
maybe USA's oficials never met with Ben Laden back than, but you gotta agree USA helped the whole group. Back than it was all in one. Northern Allience, Taliban, Al-queda.
the USA tried to do everything, so they can see the commies leave Afghanistan. It didnt matter if the tribesman was a future al-queda or taliban. The point is USA helped them all there.
RuSoKaR

The point was to stop the spread of communist, and USA sometimes was even giving weapons to everyone was promised or was already fighting against communists.

The policy of "my enemy´s foes are my friends" can backfire sometimes. I wonder where will be pointing at now some of the Stingers you gave to the former "freedom fighters"?
You can´t deny CIA helped people in Afghanistan that are now against USA, in the same way you can´t deny USA help to Saddam in the ´80s (remember the Saddam-Rumsfeld handshake?).

That chopper was rigged to look like a hind-a. That was an UGLY helicopter! All other Mi-24's had the cool bubble canopies MUCH better!
Osama was a civil engineer by trade... he made much of his money by improving and redesigning the cave networks in Afghanistan while the Russians were there.
And Yes Al Qada has existed for quite some time... it didn't just appear on 11/9 you know.

I am also tired of stupid kids here talking **** about "soviet oppressors in Afganistan", the talk where they don't belong.
Don't you think you are too biased for a moderator? I understand that only "we good, they bad" and "we white, they black" opinions work here, but you are not winning many friends with this approach. Do you want me to show you pictures of Bin Laden shaking hands with Rumsfeld as Saddam did? I don't have any, yet, there are enough sources pointing that Bin Laden was on CIA payroll at least from 1979 until 1989. There is no way the CIA will ever admit to that and I am not expecting them to.
That's what I call "creating a monster".
Just lock the thread if you feel like doing it.

Sergei,
Using your own defintion, US/England/France/Canada supported communism because we were Russian ally during WW2?
This is like saying an ex-soldier committed a bank robbery and they blame it on U.S. Army because we trained and recruited him 20 years ago.
If you don't know the difference between Mujahideen, Al qaeda and Taliban then who the **** is going to trust your credibility?

Nothing wrong with a moderator having an opinion and arguing it, as long as they can still moderate posts in accordance to forum guidlines... in my opinion.

would a 60 minutes special on it be proof enough? cause there is one, i've
seen it. intervies with americans who went to A-stan in the 80's to meet with mujahedin leaders. bin Laden being oen of them. Check it out, maybe you'll find it.

Thank you all, as per usual for ruining a perfectly good picture thread.
Thus proving that the internet has been and will continue to be a place with high signal to noise ratio.
It would be nice if you kids want to banter politics to do so in an OFF topic thread...or if military. In the open discussion...
I love a good argument like many here, but turning every thread into one is getting REALLY old REALLy fast...especially when its filled with ill-informed or uneducated banter.
You can now return to regularly scheduled bitch session...
