I didn't knew that Poland had anti-riot police units before WW2. These guys on that pic look like returning from Grunwald battle or even better - they're preparing to encounter the Kelly gang in Australia. I wonder about that helmets. Are these German WW1 design? Anyway great find as always Switek.

I tried to translate the above Polish explanation of the pictures as best I could.
The above text will attempt to inform you about the equipment that was used by reserve police officers. The police officers were outfitted with standard national police uniforms. While performing their duty controlling a crowd of people, they wore helmets, which were not always available. The first helmets used in the Polish police reserves were French made, version 15, they began being used in the 1920's. On these helmets, usually there were attached nationalistic eagles, however, there were some German helmets without the nationalistic emblem of the eagle. Later, more German helmets showed, not being that different from their predecessor, there were also Austrian version 17 helmets. However this time, in the front there was a large seized national eagle. These helmets where black and dark purple in color. After the start of Polish made helmets, version 31, the manufacturer used similar designs to those of the German and Austrian. However, the Polish made helmets where to eventually replace the German and Austrian made helmets all together. The police reserves also had metal body armor protecting their body, as well as metal shields. However, there were only about 450 pieces of this equipment. To disrupt crowds, they used rubber bats, rifle stocks, bayonets, and also live ammunition. What's interesting is, the Warsaw division of police reserves used water cannons, produced by manufacturer "Ursus". In that time, the vehicle was called a "water tank", also sometimes called "hydrant-truck", however within the Warsaw community, this vehicle was called a "Duck".

Noone Polish mp.net member would call himself "Polak". I noticed that some Russian friends use so called "Polish" accounts to disprage Poland and Poles, esp. when they can not find arguments... So called "polak" with 5 post is doing nothing byt has been monitiring posts of some meber for one year :cantbeli: ... someone suffers for paranoia p-)

But I still confused in right spelling, most russians say poliak, cause this is a russian wordfro people leave in poland.
So how should I call people who leave in Poland

I don't know how to name those people leaving in Poland.
And what is the word for people who live in Poland then? p-)
Joke
But Nick - for those pictures - how do you think riot police should be equiped before II ww? There was no kevlar, advanced plastic, plexiglass etc. Look at modern riot police - they are armoured like medieval knights or roman legions and nobody's complaining about that.. Operators shown on that pictures are well equipped for those times and believe me - they would be very hard to beat by any rioting mob because of their protection.
Cool down man.

No, Polak is Polak and means someone of Polish origin, a Pole. In Russian it's Poliak (Paliak?). Americans use Pollack as an offensive name for Polish people. Let's just leave this case.

That's just the thing- they're NOT funny Halloween costumes. Like Matrix33 said, I think it's pretty obvious that they wouldn't have Kevlar body armour and plexiglass shields.

Ok. Nick's irony and his taste is questionable... But those pix are funny, no doubt but also there are a lot unique historic information about attemps to make some protection armour for policemen about 70 years ago... This is just discovery for myself ;)
