Sorry for hijacking the thread but I have another question related to band of brothers.
I missed the end of episode 6, Bastogne, when the soldiers talk about the Roman and the Barbarian coming from the forest. Can someone tell me what happens next? Thank you.

Yes, Edelweiss was and still is the symbol of the "Gebirgsjäger". (Mountain Troops)

Edelweiss is used, because Edelweiss only grows in the mountains.

Actually, my Granddaddy fought in the Gebirgsjager during WWII and its ****ounced with "Edelveiss".
On another note, anyone know the Edelweiss song? It's really nice, my mom would sing it to me as a bedtime lullaby.
Edelweiss, Edelweiss, every morning you greet me,
Small and white, clean and bright, you look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow, bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, Edelweiss, bless my homeland forever

Is that second part supposed to be the translation?
BTW...why do you think it's written with a W?
Ryan94
04-15-2004, 09:30 PM
It´s written with a W, you can write it with a V in the german language.
Because the color white= weiss, not veiss... ;)
So Edelveiss is not right, trust me... :P
Puh...right. And what does a German know about the German language... ;)

Dude...you just proved yourself wrong. Unless you have a hearing problem you hear it ****ounced EdelWeiss.
MetalBoy
04-15-2004, 09:53 PM
There's something wrong with your hearing cuz I definitely hear it ****ounced with a v like "vavavoom", not w like "wow".
Sigh. I can't help it that they ****ounce the W so weak, but even then it still sounds like a W. But hey what do I know, I've only been listening to, speaking, reading and writing German for what...10 to 15 years? Dude, it's EdelWeiss. Like Ryan said; the second part is simply the word 'Weiss' which means 'white'. As simple as that.
MetalBoy
04-15-2004, 09:59 PM
Yes, I understand that's how Germans enunciate their w's. I'm just saying to my American ears it sounds like a v. Fair enough?
Ryan94
04-15-2004, 09:59 PM
Word! That´s so true... you cannot write Edelweiss with V... it would been false... it´s just so! ;)
MetalBoy

Cuz "v" in German is more like an American "f". That would sound like "Edelfeiss"

no, don't think he's in SPR, but he was their DI and Speilberg/Hanks' WW2 consultant, teaching the crew WW2 era field craft etc to make it look realistic.

No, they don't storm a village. In fact, they are forming an outpost around Bastogne to protect the city from the German. It's in winter and we follow a medic.
I missed the part just after the lil speech when a soldier talks about the Barbarians invading by that forest to destroy Rome.
What happened with the medic and the nurse?
What happened with the Germans? (they were singing Merry Christmas)
Thank you

You sure you really want to know? The medic was OK, but the nurse gets killed when the church they're using as an aid post is hit by artillery. As for the singing Germans, it's just a little piece of Christmas sensitivity in all the war and death. Quite touching. Buy the box set, it's worth it...

He also worked on Platoon, he starred in the film towards the end. Oliver Stone can also be seen at the end of the film where the guy runs into the bunker and blows it up.
Dale Dye also worked on MoH:AA, and if you listen closely you can hear him doing some voice acting. I think he was in the USMC in Vietnam.

I had to think carefully about whether or not to reveal the events, it's quite a responsibility, not sure i can bear it!
Now if you watch it you'll already know what happens, instead of eagerly eating up the action wondering what'll happen next.

It is a new 10-part WWII miniseries, dubbed for now "Untitled World War II Pacific Theater Project", which is in the works at DreamWorks. It will be focusing on the real life exploits of one battalion of American soldiers during their campaigns in the second world war. It will follow them across the Pacific as they fight against Imperial Japan and onto final victory.

I just meant that it might take away some enjoyment for you if/when you see that episode again, mind you it's only a minor event in the series...
