why is the retractable stock version much more used than the fixed stock version? its when extended its not much shorter than fixed stock variant, and the fixed stock looks more comfortable to shoot with.

Adjusts to what your wearing, for example, body armor. You can shorten the stock and keep the gun in the same firing position. And when it is not extended its easier to get in and out of vehicles with.

Is it a two position stock (full in/full out) or is it ajustable. If so how many positions

It's more compact, something really important in cqb.

I doubt the compactness of A3 is of any use in CQB, no-one is hardly stupid enough to fire a SMG without stock being extended. But when the weapon is carried or stored smaller size with stock retracted is ofcourse a benefit.

I think fixed stocks are "in" this year. 2007, who knows.

Not sure what you base that on.....

But full stock are more stable and it is not that much more compact then a retractable stock. the HK A3 stock only adjust for open and close, it is not any more compact for CQB, but only good for transporting. as you are coming out of a vehicle, you have the latch for the stock already released, all you have to do as you exit the vehicle, just quickly extend the stock to get into a firing position.

Two positions only. Either too short or too long (when body armor on). Agree that biggest reason for use of it... is "looking cool".

We always had a MP5 in the trunk of our car in service. There you got also lots of other stuff, so it was good that you save some space with the retractable stock.

another reason you need to use retractable stock is when you are using helmets with ballistic shields. Stock is off. And you can have more positions, not only too short or too long, of course if you have modified stock with more blocks on it.

ufo, you take it from my lips... with more "drills" in the retractable stock you have the option for diferent gear (external/internal/no bulletproof vest) plus the oportunity to put it on/off when cleaning a building when you need even to change to your handgun because of the space...
by the way hello to you all... i´ve been a reader of the forum for a year or so and this is my first message
