Gentlemen,
I found these in the loft the other day, yet can't think where on earth I got them from.
I was in the ACF for a couple of years in the early seventies, but don't remember firing anything with a belt feed.
Anyone recognise where these might be from?

Cheers
peter

In 1953 NATO introduced a new caliber for all its members. This cartridge (7.62x51mm) was based on a American design case the T65-E3 and a Belgium design bullet (the 144 grains SS77).

The 7.62x51mm was introduced in the British army together with the L1A1 rifle (the British version of the FN FAL rifle) and the L4A1 (the 7.62 version of the Brengun) which was later replaced by the L7A2 machine gun (the Brittish version of the M.A.G.)

The Brittish army has used the 7.62 round for several decades, and it is produced in a wide range of different types and loadings .

Several types of ball ammunition was produced; L2A1, L2A2, L2A4, L11A1,L16A1, L21A1, L37A1, L38A1, etc...

Thanks jungle...
I'm guessing these went through a GPMG.

The "RG" Head stamp is what used to be Royal Ordnance Factory, Radway Green - now part of the BAe empire - it's just outside Crewe in Cheshire.

The cross in circle mark is the NATO standard, L2A2 is the model designation - in this case standard ball ammo, and obviously 68 is 1968 - the year of manufacture of the case, not necessary (but usually) also the loading date of the ammunition itself.

Had a tour of RG a few years ago, fascinating place. The ammo production line is mind blowing. They were developing the 4.6 x 30 ammunition for the HK PDW at the time and allowed me to fire a few prototype rounds which was an added bonus.
