Total bollocks. There was no assualt on the Invincible, I think you Argies need to be able to distinguish between the radar profile of Atlantic Conveyor and an Aircraft carrier ;)

hmmm, great video..
labeled Argentine Air Force in the Malvinas(Falklands old chap;)), yet 50% is footage of British air assets

i remember reading more than one account where ther argies tried to attack the invincible...They used their last Exocets in that attack and they fell harmlessly into the sea.
If you mean, did they fire their missiles at the invincible then no.. But they did make at least one attempt to get the aircraft carrier...

Gentlemen - regrettably I had to close another of these threads yesterday when it was turned into a flame war. Some of the post on this one indicate similar possibilities - stop it now, you have been warned.

The Excocet that sunk the Atlantic Conveyor was iniatially aimed at HMS Hermes and was diverted away with Chaff. It then locked onto the next target it found. Not sure about any attacks on the Invincible as I was unaware that the Argentinian Airforce had any planes that could reach ships hiding on the far side of South Africa!
(if you can't see the joke above, I'm having a pop at the Invincible. We (Hermes) got the Falklands medal. The Invince got the South Africa Star! :) :) :)
Nice pics of the A4, the workhorse of the war.
I believe we have a member here that is a veteran of that war that can clarify the fact about the HMS Invensible. I forget the gents name but this has been brought up several times and has been debunked.
An interesting article about the falklands. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/witness/april/24/newsid_2947000/2947639.stm)
I was unaware of the combat using banonets. Thats pretty intense.

The MB-339As Aermacchi belonged to the 1era Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Caza y Ataque / 1st. Attack Squadron.
6 of this aircrafts were deployed to the airport of the island, in air support and anti-ship role.
The first loss was when frigate lieutenat Carlos Benitez crashed near the runway after a recon mission. He died in the crash.
The squadron suffered only slight damage during the air raid on May 1st,but the weather conditions showed as a big problem.
In May 21st Lieutenat Owen Crippa was the first aviator who contacted the Royal Navy fleet in San Carlos. His first target was the HMS Argonaut frigate. He attacked with rockets and DEFA 30mm cannons.
Later, the squadron provided air support during tha Darwin - Ganso Verde / Goose Green battle. In this ocasion Lieutenant Carlos Miguel was shot down and died.

Anybody has a link, torrent to a documentary about the falkland war? I spent quite some time searching but didnt found much :-(.
IMO its one the few modern wars which give a hint of how would things look like if 2 modern armies colided on a large scale.

The Super Etendard was during the war the most modern aircraft in Argentina's Armed Forces. They belonged to the navy and operated in 2da Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Caza y Ataque / 2nd Attack Squadron.
The plan of the navy was to replace the venerables A-4Qs with brand new SuE, so the ordered 14 of this aircrafts.
The first 5 aircrafts were recived November 17th 1981 along with it's deadliest weapon: AM-39 Exocet.
When the Malvinas / Falklands were recaptured France embargoed the rest of the fleet and missiles.
The first attack took place May 4th when 2 SuE piloted by Corvette Captain Augusto Bedacarratz and Frigate Lieutenant Armando Mayora launched their Exocets. They tought their missiles were guided to HMS Hermes, but this was out of range, so the missiles locked on another target: HMS Sheffield Type 42 Destroyer.
The next attack was May 25th. The HMS Incincible was detected but the problem was the radar piquet in the shape of HMS Coventry and HMS Broadsword. The airforce was in charge of disable this target in order to give naval aviators free way to the main objective.
Ths air force did they work and the SuE were able to launch their missiles, but again they failed to hit the aircraft carrier. Instead they hit RFA Atlantic Conveyor, who sunk later.
The last mission took place May 30th. The target was the same: an aircraft carrier, possibly the HMS Invincible.
( In order to keep this thread alive i will stop here because both sides have different stories about what happend and always finish in pointless discussions)

I used to work at Marconi in Portsmouth, and there was a bit of an urban legend there,.. Apparently the seeker head for the Exocet that hit the Sheffield was made in Portsmouth, so their was always a bit of a gag about how good our QC should be in the future. I dont know if this is provable, but they all have a serial number so records must be traceable.

Very good pics, thanks for posting....
I work with this guy that is from Argentina, and we were talking about this the other day and he told me that after Argentina took the Malvinas, nobody in Argentina thought that the British would come and fight for them.......he also told me that he was lucky that he had just finish his military service there a few months before.

Battle for Tumbledown by Mark Churms
With Fixed Bayonets soldiers of 2nd battalion Scots Guards clear enemy positions of 5th Argentine Marine Battalion on the slopes of Tumbledown Falklands war, 13th/14th June 1982.
As One Platoon followed Two Platoon over the crest the supporting fire stopped to prevent friendly fire casualties. The Two Platoon fixed bayonets and proceeded to clear the Argentines with bullet, grenade and bayonet. As the Platoons advanced more of the enemy withdrew and the support groups engaged these.
After a ten-hour action, Mount Longdon was in British hands. Daybreak brought a heavy mist that shrouded the mountain from Argentine guns as the Companies were reorganizing on the mountain. The cost of victory had been high.
The Britons were employees of Olive Security, a London company with 300 staff - many of them ex-servicemen - in Iraq.
One was identified last night by former colleagues as ex-Colour Sgt Keith Butler, who served in 3 Para in the bloody battle of Mount Longdon in the Falklands war of 1982. He was among the unit's A Company which fixed bayonets and charged the entrenched Argentinian 7th Infantry Regiment after running short of ammunition.

Yes plenty. Seeing as she (HMS Invincible (sp.)) sailed into Pompey with from our proper shooting war since Korea and had Prince Andrew aboard, there was a limited press interest in the event (note my sarcasm).
