I've seen this site before, it is graphic, but it is a reality for the troops over there. I simply dont have an answer to how we can get out of iraq.

no problem mate.
Well i wouldn't say that the name of the thread is wrong,
just that "cool" isn't the best name for pics like these.

Sometimes pics are taken in order to use to teach lessons learned ect once you get home. Others are just taken out of morbid curiosity or to prove where you have been and what you have seen/done.

pictures of that magnitude are not needed for teaching purposes, soldiers disembowled and faces gone teach nothing but fear and not a fear that is needed.
The ones that take them for curiosity and to say where they have been need to seek some help.

You might be suprised what you need to show to troops to get it through their heads that they are not imortal.
As for the curious; Until you walk their path you should'nt judge what help they need.

I concur with you,, however, they do tend to give some of our fellow members who have never seen war in all of its disgusting aspects a better "perspective" of what it is about.

Those photos show (to me) a 360 view of combat/war, there are photos of guys and girls just sitting around shooting the sh!t and there are the ones of the aftermath of IED's and such. I for one appreciate seeing such things as it helps me to understand and see what is going on in such a place.

yeah - imo the world needs to see pics like these from time to time to remind them of what war is like - pics of the good things and only statistics about the bad cant describe a war

What is this site?
This site contains an archive of photos taken by soldiers and military contractors serving in active duty. This site aims only to visually document their experiences and is not a political site. The name "Under Mars" is an homage both to Mars, the Roman God of War, and to the otherworldly nature of the experience. What is the goal of this site?
The goal of this site is exclusively to share photos of the experience of war, without politicizing, censoring, or editing.
How do I add my photos or contact the site?
If you'd like to add your photos to this archive, just email them to undermars@gmail.com along with any note you'd like included with them. Please only send photos that you took, or you know you have the permission of the photographer to send. If you know of any photos on this site that have been submitted without permission please contact me with the details.
Who took the photos on this site?
Credit and thanks for this site goes exclusively to the men and women who created the photos which are contained inside.
I think I know someone in one of the pictures!?
Please keep in mind that these photos are from many different people. I must emphasize that if you see someone you know in one picture the odds of them having any connection to other photos on the site are very slim.
Is this a pro-war or anti-war site?
It is neither. It is here to both show what's happening in a first-hand way, and to allow people to share stories that can not otherwise be shared.
Who runs this site?
This site is not run by a member of the US military, nor is it run by a US citizen or resident. This site is apolitical and who runs it, while not particularly secret, is also not particularly relevant.

Though some of those pictures are pretty graphic, people need to see stuff like that sometimes. I think that a lot of people in America don't truly know what war is like, and don't understand the reality of it. With all the shows out that embellish everything that goes on in battle without also showing the horror as well, its no wonder that people who see these pictures are shocked, and disturbed.

Everyone including the American public needs to see these pictures to realize why their country is over in Iraq and what we are fighting for and what we have to deal with while deployed to Iraq.
However, these pictures only bring back sad and distasteful memories for the veterans who have already been over there.
Bottom line is these pictures need to be seen by a lot of people to let them know the reality that war is and how it isn't just a game played by armchair generals. They need to come to the realization, that in a war, people die.
Good night.

A number of these gore pics you see are already seen in Medic training guides and courses. The morbid pictures still find use for training of new soldiers and of training for your job in the medical field.

I agree that we need to see this sort of material as to get a real sense of the situation.
I found some picture quite gory gut i was glad they are in the public domain instead of locked away.
RIP to all the fallen.
A personal favourite was the boba fett pic on page 52.
