I was wondering if Marines are intigrated into any SpecOps units like Delta, DevGru, etc.? I know the Marines have Force Recon and specialist troops (ie- Direct Action Platoons) and I've heard (and only heard) that ever few blue moons, a Marine gets into BUD/S training for the Seals. I also know Marines can go through the Army's Ranger and Parachutists schools (and are allowed to wear the tabs on their uniforms).
Basically, Im interested in what Units the Marines are involved in (if possible, their frequency/level of involvement) and how they are selected for thoe respective units (ie- any specific qualifications needed?)
Thanks in Advance. :)
Well, the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit continually trains to maintain their Special Operations Capable rating, which includes several different mission types. At a given SOCEX, the MEU planned and completed two Maritime Special Purpose Force missions, a Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel, a long-range helicopter raid, a troop reinforcement exercise, a boat raid, a humanitarian assistance exercise, an embassy reinforcement, a mass casualty exercise, a non-combatant evacuation exercise and an amphibious assault. Although I can't seem to find where it said this, they also mentioned that the Marines were looking to contribute more directly to the special operations community by forming their own group like the SEALs and SF. Probably the SOC MEU would be the closest thing to that right now though.

Gentelmen,
The Marine Corps has two stand alone Force Reconnaissance Companies and one other integrated into 3rd Reconnaissance Bn.
Force Reconnaissance Marines are capable of performing both blackside (Direct Action) and greenside (Deep Reconnaissance) missions. There are no "special troops"erforming the DA mission- that is Force only.
Marines and Sailors assigned to Force attend many schools. The only badges worn are Combatant Diver amd Parachutist- period. No other merit badges are permitted.
The Marine Corps is standing up a Detachment to work within SOCCOM. It is not known as black (leave it up to aviation crewmen to never get the word) but rather MARSOC Det 1.
This is open source and has been for some time. See any of the multiple articles in the Washington Compost and others.
Theit mission is considerably different then the MEU(SOC). It is similar to the MSPF within the MEU(SOC).
For more information concerning Force Reconnaissance, history, selection, training and equipment, go to
www.forcerecon.com or www.forcerecon.net and look for the article "Strong Men Armed, the 1st Force Reconnaissance Company".
The same article is in both sites, and will answer most of your questions.

Marines are SPECIAL FORCES capable, but ARE NOT in JSOC:
JSOC Units
1st Special Forces Operational Detachment / Delta - "Delta Force"
75th Ranger Regiment (1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalions)
Naval Special Warfare Development Group - (SEAL Team Six)
160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) - "Night Stalkers"

Are you sure that the Air Force Special Operations Command isn't in there somewhere?

I knew that at least the aircraft were in there somewhere. I get all confused when dealing with all these multi-service task forces. Honestly (probably because I haven't done enough research), I don't even know why there are two of them. I don't know why we can't just have SOCOM or JSOC. :cantbeli:

The Marine Expeditionary Units are Special Operations Capable- not Special Forces Capable.
On 01March03, MARSOC Det 1 will stand up. The 86 man Det will be part of NSW 1.
This is part of SOCCOM. This is, and has been, open source for some time now.
