This was the beginning for Dustoff. I am proud to say I was a part of this process and my son carries the tradition with the 82nd Dustoff.

I vividly remember being in a huge fire fight and the track next to mine took a hit...called out he had wounded and second later a wind at my back..I looked around and was amazed to see a medivac right behind my track, just hovering, The pilot was looking down trying to maneuver closer to the hit vehicle...and we were fighting like hell at the time! I watched as holes began appearing in the side of the Huey...the pilot never flinched, landed the thing perfectly, the medics got out and retrieved the wounded men...I laid out a heavy fire...burned a barrel trying to cover the dustoff...they got the guys and took off...I was just amazed at that kind of courage. The wounded guys survived. MM
