What they don't mention is the volume and weight of ammunition required to operate a Gatling gun compared to conventional MGs ..

Nice video though!

There's a lot of other factors not being scaled into this too, aka amount of ammo that can be carried, whether vibration is a factor, not to mention weight. But of course more rounds is going to equal more hits.

EDIT: Damn He219 beat me :)

1000 rounds vs 130 rounds, and the targets still dead.

Course I suppose you wouldn't need to fire for as long with the M134 in theory...

Doesn't take a genious, and certainly not a film, to find out what would score more hits.. And as alot of ppl already said, 1000 rounds vs 140 + that the target is probably just as dead!

Then again, the m134 is way more fun to fire I guess..

I was curious if the gatling was built in 5.56mm, it would be able to carry more rounds and still have the area suppression ability though not the heavy hit of the 7.62mm. Have any helicopters flown with a gatling in 5.56mm?

The name of the game is steel density, thats why I saw the gattling gun on Humees.

The M134 and M240 are both 7,62mm NATO ..

The 5,56mm version I am familiar with was the XM214

XM214 was not considered to be effective due to the weight of the gun, ammo and mounting systems, yet not offering a great deal of stopping power due to the cartridge. Kind of like a crappy power to weight ratio on a car.

Just curious, but the gunner in the OP's vid can fire for such long bursts without overheating the minigun?

The minigun's multibarrel design helps prevent overheating, the downside of multi-barreled systems is they relative complexity, heavy weight, and requirements for external power (electrical, pressured air or hydraulics).

I dont think its fair to compare M134 vs M240 so different conditions!(two types of weapon)
But i agre that the minigun ROCKS :)
