View Full Version : A Question/Message for Flagg
Hey Flagg, remmember when you told me I was a moron because I said that the Steyr AUG's "arctic" style trigger guard was way to open and likely would result in problems with negligent discharges....
Here, by the way, is a little tidbit of a negative review from an Australian Army veteran who used the F-88 extensively (which is the Aussia Aug). Pay special attention to item number 6 on the list...... Oh I almost forgot: Stop post whoring and trying to tell people they are idiots when its you who dont know what the Fock your talking about......and have a nice day...wanker
# The optic sight often fills with water when rifle is immersed in water obstacles.
# Bayonet breaks and are very front heavy on rifle if needed to shoot at the same time.
# After Bayonet practice the barrels of the rifle were bent, and the bayonet stud damaged so Bayonet could no longer be fitted.
# The Butt Plates fall off even though the retaining pin was still in place.
# Poor Eye relief, scope too close to eye, can cause a big black bruise around the eye.
# The Arctic Trigger Guard (for use with thick Arctic gloves) is inappropriate in our climate but would be one of the main causes of un-authorised discharges besides the un-reliable safety catch and the inability of the soldier to visually check that the breech is clear without taking the barrel out.
# Heavy build up of carbon residue on end of gas piston and cleaning causes the thin hard chrome plating to quicky wear off, this exposes the softer metal which when cleaned and corroded continually wears the piston down altering the ability of the rifle to re-cycle and operate due to change in the amount of gas allowed into system.
# The facility for grenade throwing not manufactured or manufactured but not distributed.
# The trigger pull is so heavy it affects accurate shooting.
# Magazines have melted and rotted in Australian sunlight and are not interchangeable with M16 and F89 Minimi machine gun which both can use the same magazine.
# The trigger mechanism is extremely susceptible to dirt and mud. It is not supposed to be dis-assembled by the soldier so it has to be returned to the armoury if its not functioning.
# When on Full automatic fire if rifle does not jam it pulls high and to the right.
# Catch that retains the Barrel malfunctions and sometimes breaks off, barrel sometimes becomes loose and falls out of the rifle.
# When on Full automatic fire if the rifle does not jam, only Three magazines (90) rounds can be fired as the Standing Orders dictate that the rifle has to be left to cool until the barrel can be grasped in the hand, (at least half an hour) this gives the firearm a worse rate of fire then the Martini Henry or Martini Enfield single shot from the Zulu War era, which could fire 6 shots a minute (180 plus in half an hour, continuously).
# F88 loaded weighs exactly the same as the SAR unloaded. In this instance the use of plastic has weakened the rifle, but not really had any positive saving in weight. (you could hardly beat somebodies back door down with it.)
# In the ****e position magazine rests on the ground if bumped it can dislodge ammunition in the top of the magazine or push the magazine (if the bolt is in the open position) to a higher position which blocks the bolt from closing causing another jam.

SO STOP MAKING FVCKING POSTS LIKE THIS, YOU IDIOT!! :bash:
Uh..... yeah Trigger.. Funny how your post is basically an assenine and childish rant while my post actually mentions some negative aspects of the AUG, including something I mentioned in an earlier post for which Falgg called me a moron.. I just thought I would bring it up since its interesting that an Aussia vet said the exact same thing I did.......
So Trigger, why dont you grow up, and if you are going to make a post or respond to someone elses post, dont make it a childish heap of rubbish..instead try to make it valuable if only in just some little way.............
Otherwise go jerk off or find something better to do with you hands than type bull****!

And this from another Aussie Army Vet,

The main cause of UDs is poor weapon handling drills, usually exacerbated by fatigue and stress. There is nothing wrong with the safety catch it works fine. You can see into the breech with the barrel fittted, but it is the standard drill to remove the barrel to make sure.
You are trying to use second or third hand information against people with first hand experience.
Nice one son. Clap, clap for the handicapped.

Though sadly obd has a point, the AUG reported by my mates (in the Army / RAAF) has some issues (not being able to fire two mags on full auto with out the barrel ****ting itself is what I commonly heard). Please note my information isn't from my own experience so dispose of it as you see fit.

Being a assult rifle and not a SFMG, there is no need to put 60 rounds full auto through a steyr. Sounds like it must have been one of your RAAF mates Mocking, only they would be silly enough to do that. :D

YUP I remember......you still are a moron...now you're an a-hole too for posting a topic directed right at me :D

Yup, read it...didn't you see Ngati's and Digrar's responses(both of whom has past and/or current experience with the Steyr in the RNZIR and RAR respectively)?
Oh I almost forgot: Stop post whoring and trying to tell people they are idiots when its you who dont know what the Fock your talking about......and have a nice day...wanker
Yup......MORE insults obd????? Mods!
Right, Ngati and Digrar have done an awesome job of sharing their personal experience with the Steyr, I'll post mine:
# The optic sight often fills with water when rifle is immersed in water obstacles.
Not on mine...and mine was underwater(whoops! sorry Ngati) and/or soaking wet nonstop for a week during Ex Tasman Reserve two months ago
# Bayonet breaks and are very front heavy on rifle if needed to shoot at the same time.
I don't use a bayonet(we don't cover it in basic)...I'd prefer to smoke the bad guys from 300+M and not get dirty, unless absolutely necessary ;)
# After Bayonet practice the barrels of the rifle were bent, and the bayonet stud damaged so Bayonet could no longer be fitted.
See above
# The Butt Plates fall off even though the retaining pin was still in place.
An incorrectly inserted pin and/or plate could result in this happening...that's why the DS make sure you know how to assemble your weapon correctly
# Poor Eye relief, scope too close to eye, can cause a big black bruise around the eye.
Works fine for me and everyone in my training platoon and my current rifle section
# The Arctic Trigger Guard (for use with thick Arctic gloves) is inappropriate in our climate but would be one of the main causes of un-authorised discharges besides the un-reliable safety catch and the inability of the soldier to visually check that the breech is clear without taking the barrel out.
UDs are almost always a result of poor discipline(Ngati and Digrar have done it longer than I though...so see what they have to say about it..just my two cents)
I've used a bunch of older Steyrs and I'm always comparing the gas pistons.....all you have to do is keep it clean.....even after having fired hundreds of blank rounds over the course of a couple of days(read extra dirty and no opportunity/directive/time to clean), not a problem....never even needed to adjust to adverse
# The facility for grenade throwing not manufactured or manufactured but not distributed.
Huh? ......it's called M203....and it's mounted UNDER the barrel..NEXT!
# The trigger pull is so heavy it affects accurate shooting.
50mm groups at 100m......150mm groups at 300m.....Bull
# Magazines have melted and rotted in Australian sunlight and are not interchangeable with M16 and F89 Minimi machine gun which both can use the same magazine.
It must get bloody hot in OZ...not in NZ...sounds a bit funky to me...I am a bit bent M16 mags don't interchange....what idiot screwed the pooch on that one?
# The trigger mechanism is extremely susceptible to dirt and mud. It is not supposed to be dis-assembled by the soldier so it has to be returned to the armoury if its not functioning.
I had a sticky trigger group two weekends ago....I mentioned it in one of my posts.....annoying...only time it's happened.....graphite powder fixed it right quick....still shot good groups
# When on Full automatic fire if rifle does not jam it pulls high and to the right.
What weapon on full auto doesn't climb? I've fired the Steyr on full auto a BUNCH of times this year alone......no stoppages on auto...with dirty blanks
I actually think the Steyr is quite stable and accurate under full auto bursts...more so than some other rifles I've had the opportunity to use.
# Catch that retains the Barrel malfunctions and sometimes breaks off, barrel sometimes becomes loose and falls out of the rifle.
Sounds like BS...
Only ever fired 1st mag full auto...them rapid semi...no problems
# F88 loaded weighs exactly the same as the SAR unloaded. In this instance the use of plastic has weakened the rifle, but not really had any positive saving in weight. (you could hardly beat somebodies back door down with it.)
I've fired SLRs....they rock......but when I'm humping a 100+ pounds the last thing I want to carry is a tree trunk of an SLR...unless I get issued a Sherpa to carry my pack for me ;)
# In the ****e position magazine rests on the ground if bumped it can dislodge ammunition in the top of the magazine or push the magazine (if the bolt is in the open position) to a higher position which blocks the bolt from closing causing another jam.
My shooting coach during my recent Annual Weapons Qualification suggested I try using the magazine jammed into the ground to help ensure a more stable/accurate platform when making a long distance ****e shot.....I was always wary of doing that in fear of unseating the mag......guess what, it worked....and my 300m practice groups were pretty damn good
I really like the Steyr(so I'm a bit biased), but I have had the oppotunity to play with quite a few other rifles in the last 15 years or so
Does the Steyr have room for improvement? Hell ya! Especially considering the fact it was designed in the 1970's.....name one perfect rifle and I'll call BS.....I dig the Steyr, hey...I'm a bit biased..I've gotta carry the thing ;)
obd.........next time...don't ambush me by directing a TOPIC towards me.......
NOw quit flirting with me and go back to fluffing your one mate in this forum

Dead on or not this was obviously something personal between Obd and Flagg and thus should have been left to a PM. Instead, it probably bumped a topic off the front page that the rest of the hundred or so of us would care something about. Keep your personal crap personal or people are gonna start thinking badly of you Obd ;-)
Hey, this was directed to address Flagg calling me a moron so Flag, if you wanna take it to the mods and try to get me banned for simply responding to your own personal insult to me that go right ahead........
Oh, and your still a moron but thanks for trying. Thats the important thing.......

"yeah but he started it..."
If you want to talk about equipment post it in the proper forum and leave the personal crap to PM's (edit: or off topic if they're funny p-) ). A potentially good discussion ruined by your pettiness .
