AK owners.

In your opinion, which is better:

The Tapco single hook or the Red Star Arms Military Grade(bottom)

Does the Red Star Arms version fit single hook AK's?

I belive the red stare is to prevent full auto by locking the hammer back after each shot may be wrong but from what I can see it looks like my old one.

Go with the Tapco. Its assembly is easy and drops right on in. Its a night and day difference!

I can say without hesitation that Redstar Arms is the absolute best trigger and their customer service is without peer.

Alright, 3 to 1, Redstar Arms.

Can any of you explain why RedStar over Tapco?

I want to be sure because of "trigger slap", eppler says it locks back, I think my current one locks back, isn't that what causes trigger slap?

Doesn't it have to do with the shape of a certain piece.

Full auto on a AK is not like A M 4. Actually, With out the ability to to fire full auto, the full auot mechanism is a pretty neat safety device. Basically it is a separate mechanism that holds the hammer back until the bolt is in battery, regarless what the trigger assy, is doing.

All the full auto selector does is hold the rear "sear" (lack of better name) back so when the bolt moves the hammer back, it does not hold the hammer till the trigger is released. The "tripping lever" (British term) Holds the hammer until the bolt is battery, and then it releases it.

Actually dual or single hook does the same thing. Double hook holds the hammer on both ears, not just one.

Go with the G2 Tapco, It's half the price and it works just fine. Why do you need an adjustable trigger for an AK anyway? The G2 brakes clean with no trigger slap.

Gotta love trigger slap. The reason was one rifle from one company. The rear hammer catch is suppose to be spring loaded to move back wards to engage the hammer when the trigger is still being held and the bolt moves it back wards.

The problem, As I understanding it , the reach catch did not have sufficient room to rotate rearwards with out pushing the trigger assy forward ....THE SLAP. VERY easy cure. It is amazing the problem accured, except for poor machining.

Old Dominion has the right Idea, TAPCO is good. How many people actually experienced trigger slap?........... I have never, nor heard of it tell centruy arms screwed the pooch on it. BTW, I have own a LOT of firearms. and shot lots.

Trust me it was around long before Century Arms cheapo's and from one of the highest quality AK manufacturers. My beautiful blonde wood Ak made by FEG in Hungary bought in 1989 slaps your finger so bad it's hard to shoot a box of 20. A friend has the same rifle and his has it too. I used to put a peice of rubber hose on the trigger to make it less painful. I learned years later how to fix it but I have never got around to doing it on that particular AK. I have installed several Red Star triggers in Romanian rifles and they are fine but I think I'll try the Gen 2 Tapco single hook in the FEG. It's cheaper and requires less adjusting and fine tuning than the RS. I will test it and see. My Russian Vepr is the only AK I own that has not slapped me some with the stock trigger. I guess you have to be tough to shoot an AK. :)

Thanks W bear, you know it is such a easy fix with a little grinding or a single part replacement.

I currently have 6 aks, 2 Romanain, 2 Polish, 2 Russian and had a Chinese AK.
Don't know about the tough part, I am pretty much a whimp. Low recoil is a big factor in shooting the AK.

My $300 RomAK has a tapco trigger in it. No trigger slap at all.

I have out of the box, I then did the Fix that Geezah has posted and it worked great. Still kindy gritty halfway through the pull. I purchased a G2 single hook, put it in minutes, and has always been on point since. Smooth as ever.

Thanx guys, all of you all.

I just wanted to make sure that I would get a product that suited me and my AK and that I wasn't buying something crappy or on the other hand overkill.

I will be finishing up my AK soon, I hope to have a camera by then.

Will post pics and thanx again guys.
