Thanks for posting, bigfoot. Tarawa was my division's (2nd Marine Div) baptism of fire (although the division's regiments had fought individually on Guadalcanal and in WWI).
Interesting viewing that as a former 2nd Division Marine AND the father of a 1/2 Japanese son.
RIP and Semper Fi to Marines Bordelon, Bonnyman, Hawkins, and Shoup, the battle's Medal of Honor winners. (only Shoup survived, and went on to become the Commandant of the Marine Corps).

For me, World War II in the Pacific was the most interesting area. Great videos.

1000 dead, 2000 wounded. incredible! and some Canadians want to call it quits after 44 losses. Much respect for the grit and resolve of our grandfathers. It's lame how so many people are so ignorant to the past, and have no concept of sacrifice?

Just so happens I'm reading "With the old Breed" by E.B. Sledge
These vids really help picture what these men went through.

how does the guy on Palau Group fiering an M1 garand full automaticI remember reading in Band of Brothers that the M1 can be modified very simply with a metal file to fire full auto.

Good thing for both the US and Japanese that the Japanese surrendered before Operations Olympic and Coronet were supposed to begin.
