does anyone know where i can purchase a M4 buttstock for the M249, or how to modify one for the SAW. NSN numbers or websites would be great.

Unfortunately, the disign of the SAW doesn't do well for adaption to carbine buttstocks. So far the CAR buttstock hasn't been successfully adapted to the M249 but they are working on it.
No NSN yet as this is a developmental item.

Funny thing is that alphabet posted a thread 2 weeks ago about his unit being issued M249s with M4 style stocks (apparently he wasn't too crazy about it), anyways some of the posters might know how you can get your hands on one:

kind of related but the Canadian Army carried out an upgrade of its C9 SAWs and it also entitled fitting it with an M4 style stock.

NSN: 1005-01-515-8268
Part Number: 13006209
The new collapsible stock for the M249 is a government design with construction subcontracted to different companies. Savit Corp. had the original contract. Back in late October, G&M Industries and Design West Aratech were also awarded contracts. PEO-Soldier's Rapid Fielding Initiative appears intent on getting these out to the Brigade Combat Teams as fast as they can.
In addition, the Army has been soliciting for companies to produce a government-designed collapsible buttstock for the M240B.

Hey when your unit goes through RFI before deploying or while in Kuwait you should get issued some of the new M4 style stocks for the SAW.

If you re-read my post I said "successfully".
I fully conceed that it is being done however, the current designs are not as durable as they should be for a SAW let alone trying to adapt a buttstock that was designed for a light rifle then place it on a SAW, let alone a M240. Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should. That is why the military is designing one SPECIFICALLY for the SAW.

those puppies aren't going to have single point slings on those SAWs are they?
and what about those Crane stocks..with the batt compartments..? that would be interesting.

I haven't heard of anybody breaking one, but whatever. They do have that buttstock that looks similar to a M4 stock like the one pictured above.

I tried that once, didn't turn out to well at all. maybe it was just the sling location that didn't make it work, but I want to get my hands on a c9a2 to play with it more.
