A couple years ago (2003, I think) it was reported that various US agencies acquired 17,500 SG551 carbines through the DEA. Where did these end up? I haven't seen any evidence these were ever issued to anybody, can someone shed light on this? Thanks!

Cheers

Never heard that figure but some were/are issued by DOS' DSS.

Hey Hans,

Here's an album with a number of photos of a US personal using the SIG. I think he's DSS but I'm not completely sure.

Great pics. It's interesting to see pics of some of "the boys" with their faces shaded/pixilated, etc. When I've seen the same photos elsewhere w/out the cover.

I'm slightly suspicious of photos posted in that album....pics are real, guy who posted them claiming to have been there maybe not so real.

there is an story behind this requirement.

Do you know the Rockriver deal that DEA/justice dept procured a few years ago? this was a deal that three companies won, SIG, RRA and Colt. Only RRA has fulfilled the required amount untill this day. this means only RRA has received enough orders from various Dept of justice agency to complete the order.

After 9/11 I personally saw a Capital Police officer with one in DC, however it could've been some other fed as he wore no patches and was standing next to a uniformed Capital Police. I did recognize it as a 551 though.

Now a couple of questions...I think the guys escorting franks around were a detail picked from all four branches special units for protection detail..one pic when they were on the way home I seen a patch on one of the guys uniform. Was that PSYOPS/CA patch, or some unit out of McDill?

I think it is a "No" on all accounts.
