If those dogs didn't volunteer and are getting paid (dogfood/treats etc.) does that make them mercs? What rights do they have under the Geneva Convention if they are kidnapped by insurgents/terrorists?

If they get respect by their "master" and food, they will most certainly be happy and volunteer for any tasks they are given. Dogs that are treated well are very loyal and will be proud of their duty.

Hey just an aside question: do the marines use the Doberman as their dog of choice? I heard that they do but I never was 100% certain.

Actually, in Norway, if you assault a police dog, on duty, you will be punished as if you assaulted a police officer, same punishment.

I think it's just faire and square. :D

Same thing in the US a police dog is considered a police officer. Any attack on one is just like attacking a human officer.

Anyone remember in the movie half-baked, the teacher guy fed the diabetic police horse and killed it? He was charged as if he assualted an officer :lol:
