The first F-35 Lightning II flew for the first time on Friday, Dec. 15. The plane is shown climbing out shortly after takeoff from Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas. The stealthy, multi-service F-35 is the most powerful single-engine fighter in history, and is designed to replace the F-16, F/A-18 Hornet, the Harrier and the A-10.

It seems that they mirror every pic because the national flags are the wrong way round most the times...

Weird ^^

Purposely done to have flags waving in the wind, so to speak.
Most flags have a left and right side, except for symmetrical patterns ..

Just look at the orientation of the nose landing-gear door:

Can this one take off vertically or that version was scrapped?

No I missed out, it came up password protected about 5 or 6 hours ago. Must have been a bandwidth issue?

Yeah there's a note on the site saying that a heap of people tried to download them all simultaneously and it crashed the server, so they password protected them.

Someone must have got them down ?

Not until you physically work at Engine test cell - then one can appreciate the beauty of the engineering.

This is the Production version of the F-35A, the CTOL (Conventional Take-off/Landing) version, for export and USAF use where it will replace F-16s and A-10s.

The STOVL model is the F-35B, designated for use by the US Marines to replace the AV-8Bs, production version is not yet built.

And the F-35C is the CV (Carrier) Varient for use by the US Navy, replacing the F-18Cs, also not yet built, characteristics of the C model include folding surfaces and larger wingspan.

Dunno why people keep saying that. If the pics were mirrored then the words on the side of the aircraft would be mirrored as well...

As I mentioned in another thread, flags have their own etiquettes, and when placed on aircraft the union jack on the Australian flag for example, must always be closest to the front of the aircraft, so if you were to see a photo from the opposite side, the flags would be "the right way around".

Its a flag thing.
